Reverberation chambers are used to create a diffuse incidence sound field, where multiple types of acoustic measurements can be performed. The chambers tend to have a large volume in order to extent the reverberation time. However, this requirement may be conditioned by the cost and the infrastructure limitations. This paper presents the design and construction of a small-scaled reverberation chamber of 3 m3 for middle-high frequency acoustic measurements. On the design, the acoustic characteristics of chamber are confirmed via finite element computer simulation. As case studies, absorption and scattering coefficients of several materials and diffusors are measured. The reverberation times needed for the measurements were obtained by the impulse response integration method. The small reverberation chamber demonstrated to be a reliable tool for middle and high frequency acoustic measurements.

Since the expression "Building Information Modeling" (BIM) was initially presented in the Engineering and Construction AEC industry in the most recent decade; it has changed numerous parts of the design, construction, and operation of a building. BIM is a middleware connector that represents the advancement and utilization of PC. BIM has various frameworks which have been conducted by the pioneers in the BIM industry to enhance the BIM process. There is a study of the reflection of those frameworks on the Egyptian AEC industry to overcome the threats that prevent Egypt from applying BIM technology more broadly. In addition, a comparison is conducted between the successful countries which implemented BIM in their projects and managed to enhance their adoption by examining the local challenges and targets. The countries then made strategies and standards to overcome the aforementioned obstacles. Furthermore, successful actions were applied that can match with the Egyptian industrial requirements. This paper is expected to define the challenges which are facing the Egyptian industry to apply BIM and the potential capabilities of solving those problems. To acquire the vital information to carry on this paper, a questionnaire was created and distributed in the AEC community. The reason for the study was to see how experts consider BIM as a device in the fields of design and construction in general and in the Egyptian industry particularly. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework through several case studies which are discussed, analyzed and compared. The purpose of the analysis is to explore the importance of using BIM. Additionally, exploring the effect of different parameters on implementing BIM helped significantly during the process. It starts with proposing its framework with evaluating matrix that contains attributes to measure its success, moreover, it serves as a great help to the Egyptian companies that make real business decisions about enhancing BIM implementation through this framework.

Since its formal introduction in 1967, the concept of post-occupancy evaluation (POE) has been the focus of several substantial books as well as being addressed in key professional journals. In addition, specific POE endeavors related to private and government projects have issued reports of their work. Despite this attention, college and university graduate research work on POEs has not been explored. The purpose of this meta-study using document analysis is to explore the characteristics and implications of college and university graduate POE research focusing on design/construction by analyzing the abstracts of graduate master’s theses and doctoral dissertations that substantially utilized the concept of POE.  Results are reported by addressing the characteristics of the research degrees (location/place, type, year, institution, methods associated with the degree, and status of publication) and the characteristics of the research (settings, and focus). The article concludes by calling on the design/construction fields to explore ways to support a greater focus on the communication/coordination and dissemination of international graduate POE research.

Student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers participate annually in a competition for the design, construction and performance of concrete canoes that meet certain minimum rule restrictions. This paper reports on the craft entered in the 1984 competition by students at the University of California/ Berkeley. The Berkeley team came in second in the men's and women's races and placed first in both design and construction.

Captain Frank Barnwell is to be remembered as one of the pioneers of practical aviation. His love of flying inspired him and eventually killed him, for it was in an aircraft of his own design and construction that he eventually met his end; but his record of service to aeronautical design shows that he was much more than a brave and gifted amateur aviator. He was a professional engineer, a realist who foresaw the practical application of aeronautics to useful purpose. In an age when many considered aviation an interesting hobby of little practical importance, Barnwell set himself the task of designing aircraft for practical purposes.

For the characteristics of high frequency of switching devices in the photovoltaic inverter and complexity of circuit topology, the insulated gate bipolar transistor driving protection circuit is designed which is suitable for photovoltaic inverter. The circuit which is based on thick film structure of M57962L has isolated power supply and threshold voltage regulator circuits. The control and regulation can be achieved precisely for the threshold voltage of over current protection. The internal structure of M57962L has been analyzed here. The process of slow turn off action is observed practically. For the circuit periphery parameters of M57962L, the general calculation methods are given according to various models and the level of protection for IGBT. The practical application shows that the method is correct and effective.

Sustainable development principles have been implemented in various sectors including construction. Proper development and operation of infrastructure projects such highways can contribute significantly to the mission of sustainable development. Previous studies shown that most of conventional highways are unsustainable in many ways. Highways are facing severe challenge such as deteriorating condition, congestion, energy supply, and shortfall of funding for maintenance and capacity expansion to meet increasing demand. However at the same time, they consume huge amount of natural minerals and energy and generate waste and emission which contributing to climate changes and global warming. Therefore, sustainable design, construction, operation and maintenance have become priority these day. The aim of this paper is to determine critical elements for sustainable design and construction based on ranking of the priority level of the weighted value of each criteria. The questionnaires survey were developed and distributed to related respondents in order to obtain the agreement level for the element. The data was analysed using SPSS with factor analysis method.  Result from the analysis shown the criteria, weightage and score for main criteria for sustainable design and construction activities for green highway.
