Rapid external changes without being followed by internal changes will have a negative impact on tertiary institutions. Internal change begins with the ability of senior lecturers because they are at the forefront in following changes. Organizational commitment is evidenced by the high quality of the lecturers’ work ability. This study utilized combined research methods or exploratory mix methods with data taken from forlap dikti and Sinta, and quantitative and qualitative analysis using WAI (Work Ability Index). Results of the study showed that the work ability of senior lecturers is lacking (0.1-1), while organizational commitment is still low as evidenced by the results of scientific journals during the past three years. The innovation of this study is the Emotional Work Community (EWC) as a concept model to improve lecturers' performance abilities that are lacking.

Measuring competencies of lower educated employees: The development of a questionnaire Measuring competencies of lower educated employees: The development of a questionnaire Femke T.C. Bennenbroek, Heleen R. Paagman & Astrid M. Hazelzet, Gedrag & Organisatie, volume 20, June 2007, nr. 2, pp. 196-211 In the present study we describe the development of a preliminary Questionnaire Performance Abilities (VPM) into an improved version 2.0. Furthermore, we examined to what extent the questionnaire is able to reliably assess the competencies of subsidized employees. In this article, we describe the study in which the VPM (version 1.0) is used to assess 580 subsidized employees. Based on factor analyses and additional analyses, the scale structure of a new version of the questionnaire (version 2.0) is determined. In addition, we compared the evaluation of competencies by the employer and the employee and examined the convergent validity of the questionnaire. The study shows that Questionnaire Performance Abilities (version 2.0) is a reliable questionnaire. In addition, the questionnaire provides useful leads to further develop the competencies of the employee.

Light can induce an alertness response in humans. The effects of exposure to bright light vs. dim light on the levels of alertness during the day, especially in the afternoon, as reported in the literature, are inconsistent. This study employed a multiple measurement strategy to explore the temporal variations in the effects of exposure to bright light vs. regular office light (1,200 lx vs. 200 lx at eye level, 6,500 K) on the alertness of participants for 5 h in the afternoon. In this study, 20 healthy adults (11 female; mean age 23.25 ± 2.3 years) underwent the Karolinska sleepiness scale (KSS), the auditory psychomotor vigilance test (PVT), and the waking electroencephalogram (EEG) test for two levels of light intervention. The results yielded a relatively lower relative delta power and a relatively higher beta power for the 1,200 lx condition in comparison with the 200 lx condition. However, the light conditions elicited no statistically significant differences in the KSS scores and performance with respect to the PVT. The results suggested that exposure to bright light for 5 h in the afternoon could enhance physiological arousal while exerting insignificant effects on subjective feelings and performance abilities relating to the alertness of the participants.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to assess the validity of a new basketball-specific complex test (BBCT) based on the ascertained match performance.Fourteen female professional basketball players (ages: 23.4 ± 1.8 years) performed the BBCT and a treadmill test (TT) at the beginning of pre-season training. Lactate, heart rate (HR), time, shooting precision and number of errors were measured during the four test sequences of the BBCT (short distance sprinting with direction changes, with and without a ball; fast break; lay-up parcours; sprint endurance test). In addition, lactate threshold (LT) and HR were assessed at selected times throughout the TT and the BBCT and over 6 (TT) or 10 (BBCT) minutes after the tests. The match performance score (mps) was calculated on specific parameters (e. g. points) collected during all matches during the subsequent season (22 matches). The mps served as the “gold standard” within the validation process for the BBCT and the TT.TT parameters demonstrated an explained variance (EV) between 0 % (HR recovery) and 11 % (running speed at 6 mmol/l LT). The EV from the BBCT was higher and ranged from 0 % (HR recovery 6 minutes after end of exercise) to 28 % (sprint endurance test after 8 of 10 sprints). Ten out of 21 BBCT parameters (48 %) and 2 out of 5 TT parameters (40 %) demonstrated an EV higher than 10 %. Average EV for all parameters was 12 % (BBCT) and 6 % (TT), respectively. The BBCT had a higher validity than the TT for predicting match performance. These findings suggest that coaches and scientists should consider using the BBCT testing protocol to estimate the match performance abilities of elite female players.
