Background: Online educational programs for nurse preceptors have been created based on various theoretical frameworks; however, no programs using a Strengths-Based Nursing (SBN) approach could be located. Purpose: This qualitative descriptive study explored the nurse preceptors’ experiences in using a SBN approach to provide clinical teaching to nursing students after completing an online SBN clinical teaching course. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six nurses. Data was thematically analyzed. Findings: Although their levels of familiarity with SBN varied, all preceptors acknowledged that using a SBN approach in clinical teaching benefits both students and educators. They reported that it empowered students and that it allowed them to discover their strengths. Getting to know their students helped the preceptors provide tailored learning experiences and feedback. Using the SBN approach simultaneously enhanced the preceptors’ self-confidence and created opportunities for shared learning. Conclusion: Using a strengths’ approach offers nurse preceptors a powerful tool to facilitate student learning and skills development in clinical practice.

Purpose The authors wanted to find out if small businesses adopted strengths-based approaches and whether they were beneficial Design/methodology/approach The interviewees came from small businesses in Western Australia with between five and 19 employees in the motor vehicle industry where there are high-value products. There were 30 participants from 17 businesses, including owners, managers and employees, such as technicians, mechanics and tire fitters. Data was gathered using semi-structured face-to-face interviews of about 40 minutes. Findings The researchers found that the managers used an SBA to select employees during periods of temporary employment. But they did not use an SBA for employee selection during interviews, training or performance evaluations. Originality/value The authors said it was the first empirical study of the SBA in small businesses. It had practical lessons for businesses. First, the data suggested poor awareness of SBA by managers and many need practical guidance from small business advisors. Second, managers found it hard to assess strengths and relied on observations. Software tools could help. Finally, the characteristics of small businesses could help them adopt the new approach. These include lots of face-to-face interaction between managers and employees.

The current study aimed to explore mothers’ perceptions of facilitators and barriers to engagement in the HoPES program, an intensive home-visiting intervention for families with young children identified as having child maltreatment concerns. Seven mothers who had participated in the program participated in semi-structured interviews about their experiences. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo Version 12. Themes relating to facilitators of engagement included the following: (1) clinician behaviours; (2) treatment relevance/acceptability; (3) strong therapeutic relationship; (4) mothers’ cognitions and beliefs about treatment and (5) program delivery. Themes relating to barriers to engagement included the following: (1) contextual/external barriers to treatment; (2) treatment relevance/acceptability; (3) mothers’ cognitions and beliefs about treatment and (4) program processes. This study highlights the important role which services and clinicians have in engaging parents at risk of child maltreatment. Specifically, the prioritisation of the therapeutic relationship through all intervention processes, and the utilisation of strength-based approaches, may facilitate engagement.

ABSTRACTThe challenges of students in dealing with the teaching and learning process are quite diverse, so there are also various ways of handling these students to deal with them. How to handle challenges in the teaching and learning process requires a positive concept of academic self-efficacy. This research is qualitative research with data collection tools using observation and interviews. Observation and interview guides are made according to aspects of the target behavior, namely level, breadth, and strength. Based on the results of the study, it shows that the subject has high self-efficacy in the field of science that is currently being undertaken. This can be seen in the seriousness of the subject towards the lecture materials and the efforts of the subject in dealing with difficulties in lecture assignments. Subjects have a high level of self-confidence in carrying out assignments in lectures. For the subject, although there are many difficulties in doing these tasks, the subject has high confidence to always be able to do the given task. Keywords: Academic self-efficacy, Students ABSTRAKTantangan mahasiswa dalam menghadapi proses belajar mengajar cukup beragam sehingga beragam pula cara penanganan mahasiswa tersebut untuk menghadapinya.
