The reactivity of N-thiophthalimides with silyl chalcogenides is described. Treatment of N-thiophthalimides with bis(trimethylsilyl) sulfide [(Me3Si)2S] leads to the formation of a mixture of the corresponding disulfides and trisulfides. On the other hand, N-thiophthalimides react with bis(trimethylsilyl) selenide [(Me3Si)2Se] under TBAF catalysis to smoothly give variously substituted diaryl, divinyl, and dialkyl disulfides; formation of a selenotrisulfide (dithiaselane, RSSeSR) is rationalized as an intermediate. Exploiting the different chemical behavior of silyl chalcogenides, we have disclosed a novel, selective, and operationally simple method to access disulfides in good yields under mild conditions.

The satisfying cyclization of 2’-hydroxy chalcone to flavanone using polystyrene-pyridine resine as catalyst and methanol as solvent under mild conditions is reported here. The method is appropriate for 2’-hydroxy chalcone derivatives with electron group in B-ring.

AbstractWe report a simple method for copper-catalyzed benzylic C–H alkynylation that uses alkynylboronic esters as nucleophilic coupling partners. The catalytic system is readily available and the reaction takes place under mild conditions. Different substrates for the C–H functionalization, as well as various alkynylboronic ester nucleophiles, were evaluated. Finally, three examples of enantioselective C–H alkynylations are presented.

AbstractSimple, efficient, clean, and stereospecific protocols of protection of phosphorus atom with borane and deprotection from the borane complexes of the tertiary phosphines in mild conditions are reported. The proposed protection/deprotection reactions tolerate a range of functional groups and lead to pure products with excellent yield with no need for application of chromatographic or crystallisation purification procedures. For the first time mechanisms of the reactions of phosphine protection and deprotection have been studied based on experimental kinetic data as well as quantumchemical calculations, which allows designing reaction conditions suitable for a given substrate.

We have demonstrated a simple method for the synthesis of water-soluble and well-dispersed fluorescent DNA-dots under mild conditions, which could be used as an effective fluorescent probe for the detection of iron ions with relatively good selectivity and sensitivity in an aqueous solution as well as in biological imaging applications.

AbstractA new, highly efficient and very simple method for the synthesis of pure octahedral methylsilsesquioxanes (CH3SiO3/2)8, from cyclic 2,4,6,8-tetraalkoxy- 2,4,6,8-tetramethylsiloxane, was developed. We have found that T8Me can be synthesized from a mixture of alkoxymethylcyclosiloxane isomers in the hydrolytic condensation process, utilizing an ionic catalyst - tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF). The reaction was carried out under very mild conditions, at room temperature, in a variety of solvents of different polarity. A substantial solvent effect was observed. THF helped in the formation of pure T8Me, whereas in other solvents mixtures of T8Me and poly(methylsilsesquioxanes) (PMQS) of substantial degree of regularity, were obtained.
