A half mode substrate integrated waveguide-to-defected ground structure (HMSIW-DGS) cell and its embedded form are proposed to miniaturize a bandpass filter. Both cells can purchase wideband frequency response and low insertion loss, as well as simple and easy fabrication. By cascading two of them according to design requirement, an X-band bandpass filter is designed and measured to meet compact size, low insertion loss, good return loss, second harmonic suppression, and linear phase.

Abstract In this paper, a triple-band bandpass filter using a multi-mode half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) cavity is presented. In this design, back-to-back connected half-mode defected ground structure (DGS) is loaded into the HMSIW cavity, which generates the first passband. The first four modes of HMSIW cavity are TM110, TM120, TM310, and TM320. They have been used to generate second and third passbands. The slot line perturbation is used to shift the modes close to each other. Here, TM110 and TM120 constitute second passband, and TM310 and TM320 give third passband. Moreover, the notch band is designed using embedded open-circuited stub to improve the attenuation between the second and third passbands. The proposed filter is designed and fabricated on RT/Duroid 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.508 mm. The measured results are in line with simulated ones for each of the passbands, and the center frequencies are 6.28, 13, and 19.12 GHz.

Filter is an important part in telecommunication system including in radar system. To get the better performance in selecting the signal, a ftlter must have a good Q-Factor. In this paper, an investigation of a ftlter design for synthetic radar has been successfully done. This ftlter has been designed to work at x-band using square loop resonator (SLR). A Defected Ground Structure (DGS) has been implemented to this work to increase the Q-factor of the ftlter. The result of measurement getting that the center frequency at 9.51 GHz with the bandwidth 610 MHz and PCB size of this ftlter is 22 mm x 16 mm.

Aims : Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) based bandpass filter is presented in this paper. Objectives: In the proposed design, bandpass response is achieved by combining SIW structure with elliptic shaped Defected Ground Structure (DGS) cells. Methods : Simulation of the proposed structure is carried out using commercial software Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), which is a three-dimensional frequency domain electromagnetic solver based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Analysis of three different types of DGS cells including rectangular, circular and elliptical has been carried out. Moreover, Frequency tuning is also carried out by changing the dimension of DGS. Result : Proposed filter is fabricated on the dielectric material RT duroid 5880 with the dielectric constant ɛεr=2.2, dissipation factor tanδ=4 x 10-4 and height h= 0.508 mm. The measured return loss of 25.71 dB and insertion loss of 1.24 dB with 3 dB Fractional Bandwidth (FBW) of 4.8% at the center frequency of 7 GHz. Conclusion : Good agreements are observed between the experimental results and the simulations.
