For students with learning disabilities, providing text-based instruction in general education content area classes can provide students with additional reading support while simultaneously boosting their content knowledge. This article will outline a set of instructional practices delivered in social studies classes that has been shown to improve performance of eighth grade students with disabilities on measures of content knowledge, vocabulary, and content reading comprehension. Each instructional practice will be described in detail with a timeline of step-by-step procedures and accompanying language that demonstrates how the intervention may unfold in the classroom setting.

The peculiarity of the Russian-language Instagram segment is that for many users it has become the platform for text self-expression and discussions (including on reading issues). This explains the fact that many publishers and bookstores create their own Instagram accounts to promote book products. The purpose of the article is to identify the marketing potential of book public pages in Instagram. The author sets the following tasks: to identify successful practices of publishers and bookselling organizations in Instagram; analyze them from the point of view of text content, visual design; identify the main forms of users engagement; calculate the engagement rate (ER); identify possible "recipes" for the success of book public pages. Viewing the official websites of publishers and bookstores allowed the identification of book public posts with a significant number of subscribers and that of forms to attract users, and the determination of content features and visual design. A comparison of the activity level of public pages: @ eksmolive and @mifbooks of two major publishing houses. For this purpose, the number of posts, likes and comments for the period from 23.10.2019 to 22.11.2019 was calculated, as well as the engagement rate using the ER method. The author comes to the conclusion that the Instagram is widely used by publishing organizations and booksellers as a promising platform for book promotion and reading support, active exchange of information with the audience, increasing people’s loyalty, brand promotion, organization of direct sales. Effectiveness of the presence of booksellers in Instagram largely depends on the competent segmentation of the audience, the uniqueness of the content and visual design, and the use of various techniques and methods to enhance user engagement.

In the age of online textbooks and digital reading devices, the nature of active reading has changed. During active reading, learners build and analyze the materials they read by applying specific strategies, such as annotating, summarizing, and developing study guides or other artifacts in an effort to comprehend, memorize, and synthesize information. However, research suggests that as textbooks migrate to the digital space, contemporary active reading may be more accurately conceptualized as, at least in part, dependent upon the medium or the platform on which it occurs. This chapter proposes a novel perspective for understanding active reading called Multimedia Active Reading, which is empirically grounded in prior research that uncovered ways in which learner behaviors in the tablet textbook environment map to common physical active reading strategies (i.e., annotation, reorganization, browsing, and cross-referencing) and introduced and evaluated novel active reading support designed for the tablet textbook environment.

The gap between the skills of students with special educational needs (SEN) and learning requirements is widening as they move from primary to secondary education. The purpose of this research is to implement and evaluate the pedagogical tool "Targeted, Individual, Structured, and Integrated Program for Students with Special Educational Needs" (TISIPfSENs), through which a special teaching methodology is proposed for the reading support of students with SEN. The methodology applied was mixed and lasted 5 years in 5 general Greek secondary schools. The study sample consisted of students with neurodevelopmental disorders (N = 10) and adults (N = 130) who encountered them learning, therapeutically, and socially. The qualitative data were collected in the context of the action research with the utilization of observation and intervention tools, while the quantitative data were collected from an unbalanced questionnaire. The results showed that "TISIPfSENs" supports students with neurodevelopmental disorders in reading skills during their transition to secondary education. The findings showed that students can actively participate in the general learning process, provided that the intervention is governed by certain principles, such as individualization of teaching, structuring of teaching methodology in certain phases, informal pedagogical assessment, and differentiation activities for the cultivation of neurodevelopmental areas. Keywords: School transition, TISIPfSENs, neurodevelopmental disorders, reading skills, secondary school teaching methodology
