Integration development of urban agglomeration is important for regional economic research and management. In this paper, a method was proposed to study the integration development of urban agglomeration by trajectory gravity model. It can analyze the gravitational strength of the core city to other cities and characterize the spatial trajectory of its gravitational direction, expansion, etc. quantitatively. The main idea is to do the fitting analysis between the urban axes and the gravitational lines. The correlation coefficients retrieved from the fitting analysis can reflect the correlation of two indices. For the different cities in the same year, a higher value means a stronger relationship. There is a clear gravitational force between the cities when the value above 0.75. For the most cities in different years, the gravitational force between the core city with itself is increasing by years. At the same time, the direction of growth of the urban axes tends to increase in the direction of the gravitational force between cities. There is a clear tendency for the trajectories of the cities to move closer together. The proposed model was applied to the integration development of China Liaoning central urban agglomeration from 2008 to 2016. The results show that cities are constantly attracted to each other through urban gravity.

This chapter examines one of nine critical forces behind purchase decisions that make mobile advertising so powerful: trajectory. An individual's trajectory is the physical, behavioral trace of his or her offline movements. Firms can measure when we walk past their physical stores, when we come through the front door, when we walked up to the second floor, and so on. Trajectory has three dimensions: time, route, and velocity. Time includes the starting and ending point of the trajectory and the day of the week. Route is not location itself, but rather a way to determine how similar someone's spatial trajectory is to others. Velocity contains information about how fast the individuals are moving. Underlying these three dimensions is a fourth and far more granular dimension called semantics. Semantics takes a number of factors into account, such as the likelihood that someone may visit a certain store, how much time they spend there, how much time they spend moving to another location, and how related or unrelated those two stores are.

Since the introduction of iPhone in 2007, smartphones have become very popular (e.g., the number of worldwide smartphone sales has surpassed the number of PC sales in 2011). The feature of high mobility and small size of smartphones has created many applications that are not possible or inconvenient for PCs and servers, even laptops. Location-based services (LBS), one of mobile applications, have attracted a great attention recently. This research proposes a location-based service, which predicts a spatial trajectory based on the current and previous trajectories by using a novel matrix representation. Spatial trajectory prediction can be used in a variety of purposes such as travel recommendations and traffic control and planning, but at the same time, just like most location-based services, the user privacy concern is a major issue. Without rigorous privacy protection, users would be reluctant to use the service. The proposed method is simple but effective and user privacy is rigorously preserved at the same time because the trajectory prediction is performed at the user-side. Additionally, this research is not only useful but also pedagogical because it involves a variety of topics like (i) mobile computing, (ii) mobile security, and (iii) human behavior recognition.

For automotive applications, passive flow control devices can be used to reduce, delay or prevent flow separation. This study explores the nature of vortex generation and behaviour, numerically and experimentally, for a simple geometry at a Reynolds Number (Rex) of 5×105 and 1.945×106. The setup comprised a triangular vane vortex-generator mounted on a shallow ramp referenced from literature. Flow over the isolated ramp was validated with past experimental particle-image-velocimetry (PIV) data, which also highlighted the relative performance of various turbulence models. A parametric study was undertaken with the vane orientation defined by an angle-of-attack (β) and stream-wise location (xedge/xVG). These results revealed relationships between geometric parameters of the vortex generator, as well as the influence of the boundary layer thickness (hVG/δ), on the spatial trajectory of induced vortices.
