Based on the foundation treatment for deep soft soil in Chaoshan station district, this paper studied the engineering characteristics of soft soil in Chaoshan and the settlement regularity of pile-net composite foundation, etc. by numerical simulation. The results show: the reduction of pile spacing and the settings of pile cap can decrease the settlement of soil among the piles on foundation plane.

Based on the treatment of in-situ foundation, two distinct model tests for pile-net composite foundation in super large area and deep soft soil with different pile spacing were designed to study the bearing behavior of the piles. The result shows: the axial force of pile shaft increases with the growth of embankment filling load and gradually rises down along pile shaft to a certain depth, then slowly decreases afterwards. The velocity of force changing varies from the correlated soil layers, which indicates that pile shaft resistance appears to be unlike in different pile sites; The ratio of pile shaft resistance area to the overall pile length is relatively high while of normal resistance area is smaller ,and when the upper load is mainly supported by bearing course on pile end, pile-net composite foundation turns to be friction and end-bearing pile; For each level of loads, both pile-soil stress ratio and load shearing ratio of pile increase modestly, then tend to be steady till the next load level is applying on.

Based on the experimental study of rotary filling piles with large diameter subjected to axial load in deep soft soil, the bearing capacity behavior and load transfer mechanism were discussed. Results show that in deep soft soil foundation, the super–long piles behave as end-bearing frictional piles. The exertion of the shaft resistance is not synchronized. The upper layer of soil is exerted prior to the lower part of soil. Meanwhile, the exertion of shaft resistance is prior to the tip resistance. For the different soil and the different depth of the same layer of soil, shaft resistance is different.

Two experimental areas in a highway soft soil ground treatment project in Guangdong Province were designed to investigate the improvement mechanism of geogrid-reinforced and pile-supported embankment(GRPS).The experimental results showed: In End-bearing Pile Area, the differential settlement between pile and soil was bigger than that of Floating Pile Area,so the bearing capacity of soil was exerted to a certain extent in Floating Pile Area. The bearing efficacy of soil below the pile cap was little, so the replacement ratio of composite foundation could be calculated according to the pile cap dimension. The load transfer efficacy of the geogrid was better than that of the soil arch. Five kinds of methods were used to evaluate the soil arch in the fill and it was indicated that the results calculated by the BS8006 method and Carlsson method was close to the experimental data which was smaller than results calculated by Hewlett method and Terzaghi method, bigger than Guido method. Through the analysis of the pile-soil stress ratio, the improvement mechanism of the two types of GRPS were revealed.

Embedding soft soil particles with high moisture content into miscellaneous fill with large pores under overlying loads is easy. It produces mutually embedded settlement, which is an important component of total foundation settlement during calculation. In this study, influences of interface friction on mutually embedded settlement, particle displacement, pore and contact characteristics, and mutually embedded development laws were analysed by using the particle flow method. Research results demonstrate that mutually embedded settlement decreases first and then stabilizes with the increase in contact friction factor and continuously attenuates with normal stiffness. Under the loads, particles at the contact surface move downward and squeeze surrounding particles laterally, thus causing particles to slide at the miscellaneous fill channel upward. Consequently, porosity of particles in miscellaneous fill channel increases. The force chain at the contact surface inclines around, while that at the miscellaneous fill channel presents approximately horizontal distribution. Compared with 35 and 45 mm particles, the mutually embedded settlement of 15 and 25 mm particles is slightly increased with loads. Particle size can relieve the influences of loads on mutual embedding. When particle size is larger than 25 mm, loads can significantly influence mutual embedding. Research conclusions can provide a reasonable theoretical foundation for calculating or predicting settlement of miscellaneous fill-soft soil composite foundation.

In order to analyze the characteristics of pile-soil stress ratio of the composite foundation of cement-soil mixing pile under flexible foundation, this paper points out the displacement mode of friction pile; According to the deformation characteristic of friction pile, ascertain the neutral point of composite foundation. And this paper also derives the exact formula about length-stress ratio which addresses the problem of soft soil foundation according to the deformation co-ordination conditions of the pile composite foundation. The calculation of actual example proves that the formula about pile-soil stress ratio is in accordance with actual measurement number. The pile-soil stress ratio which addresses the problem of soft soil foundation is generally between 2~4. If other conditions keep invariable, pile-soil stress ratio become big when cushion modulus become big. Cushion modulus effect the length-stress ratio greatly.

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite sheet piles are usually favored for slope and river-retaining structures due to their construction and environmental efficiency. Their applications, however, have been hindered by the lack of understanding of the bearing capacity. This paper studies the vertical and lateral bearing capacity of FRP composite sheet piles through three full-scale tests conducted in Haiyan, a soft soil site in the Yangtze River Delta of China. In the three tests, we measured the vertical bearing capacity of the FRP composite sheet piles, the bearing capacity of the composite foundation, and the lateral capacity of the FRP composite sheet piles, respectively. The test results show that the Q-S (load on the top of the pile versus settlement) curve of the FRP composite sheet piles exhibits a steep fall while that of the composite foundation is relatively flat. Moreover, the ultimate bearing capacity of the FRP composite sheet piles is measured to reach 23.8 kN while that of the composite foundation increases by 47.1 %, reaching 35.0 kN. It shows that the FRP composite sheet piles under the composite foundation have a favorable bearing performance. Finally, the final horizontal displacement of the FRP composite sheet pile in the reinforced area with anchoring the sheet pile is smaller than the final horizontal displacement in the nonreinforced area, indicating that the horizontal bearing capacity can be significantly improved by anchoring the sheet pile.
