The Ni-P-Al2O3 composite film was coated on mild steel of SS400 with electroless plating method. In this process, different sizes of Al2O3 particles and different blended amounts of Al2O3 particles into the plating solution were applied. From the surface and cross section observation, it is known that the Al2O3 particles were uniformly dispersed in the Ni-P alloy. The highest corrosion resistance and the highest wear resistance of the Ni-P-Al2O3 composite film were obtained when adding Al2O3 particles with the mean diameter of 0.05μm into the plating solution at the blended amount of 1.0g/L.

The electroless plating composite film Ni-P-Al2O3 was prepared on a mild steel of SS400 with stirring of the plating solution. The composite film became thinner and rougher when Al2O3 particles were blended into the plating solution. The corrosion resistance and the wear resistance of the composite film were largely enhanced in comparision to the Ni-P film.

The Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites were fabricated by pressureless sintering process. The Fe3Al intermetallics compounds powders were fabricated by mechanical alloying and heat treatment, then the Fe3Al powders and Al2O3 powders were mixed and the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composite powders were prepared, so the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites were fabricated by sintering process at 1700oC for 2h. The phase composition and microstructure of Fe3Al intermetallics compounds powders produced by mechanical alloying and heat treatment were investigated. The phase composition, microstructure and mechanical properties of the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites sintered bulks were investigated. The XRD patterns results showed that there existed Fe3Al phase and Al2O3 phase in the sintered composites. The Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites sintered bulks exhibited the homogenous and compact microstructure, the Fe3Al particles were homogenously distributed in the Al2O3 matrix, the mean particles size of Fe3Al intermetallics was about 3-5μm. The Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites exhibited more homogenous and compact microstructure with the increase of Fe3Al content in the Al2O3 matrix. The density and relative density of the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites increased gradually with the increase of Fe3Al content. The fracture strength and fracture toughness of the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites increased gradually with the increase of Fe3Al content. The elastic modulus and hardness (HRA) of the Fe3Al/Al2O3 composites decreased gradually with the increase of Fe3Al content.

Abstract This study focuses on two major advantages of induction heating over flame heating in the treatment of coated boiler tubes. In both cases the induction heating process is simple, fast and effective. Firstly, we will show how the the use of induction heating results in exceptionally thick and hard coatings with low porosity. Having high corrosion and wear resistant properties, the products can satisfy industry's needs for reliable coatings with a long service life. Next, the study will detail how a pipe with the coating already applied can be simultaneously bent by induction heating while the coating is melted and fused to the pipe. The result is a thicker, more even and reliable coating than that accomplished by the flame sprayed method on a bent pipe. The process is not only less cumbersome, but again provides a superior product for the market.
