This paper presents results that can be used to validate input-output transient performance for modular control systems. If bounds in the time-domain are specified for inputs of an LTI SISO system, the techniques in this paper can determine the minimum set containing all possible outputs. If both input and output bounds are given, they can determine whether these specifications are met. Network delay affecting the input of the system is also considered. Finally, this paper extends the techniques for MIMO systems. The results are derived using the theory of convex sets. Several examples are presented to illustrate the results and demonstrate their application.

Reconstructions of asymmetric objects computed by electron tomography are distorted due to the absence of information, usually in an angular range from 60 to 90°, which produces a “missing wedge” in Fourier space. These distortions often interfere with the interpretation of results and thus limit biological ultrastructural information which can be obtained. We have attempted to use the Method of Projections Onto Convex Sets (POCS) for restoring the missing information. In POCS, use is made of the fact that known constraints such as positivity, spatial boundedness or an upper energy bound define convex sets in function space. Enforcement of such constraints takes place by iterating a sequence of function-space projections, starting from the original reconstruction, onto the convex sets, until a function in the intersection of all sets is found. First applications of this technique in the field of electron microscopy have been promising. To test POCS on experimental data, we have artificially reduced the range of an existing projection set of a selectively stained Golgi apparatus from ±60° to ±50°, and computed the reconstruction from the reduced set (51 projections). The specimen was prepared from a bull frog spinal ganglion as described by Lindsey and Ellisman and imaged in the high-voltage electron microscope.

The objective of this paper is to develop a Direct Model Reference Adaptive Control (DMRAC) algorithm for a MIMO process by extending the MIT rule adopted for a SISO system. The controller thus developed is implemented on Laboratory interacting coupled tank process through simulation. This can be regarded as the relevant process control in petrol and chemical industries. These industries involve controlling the liquid level and the flow rate in the presence of nonlinearity and disturbance which justifies the use of adaptive techniques such as DMRAC control scheme. For this purpose, mathematical models are obtained for each of the input-output combinations using white box approach and the respective controllers are developed. A detailed analysis on the performance of the chosen process with these controllers is carried out. Simulation studies reveal the effectiveness of proposed controller for multivariable process that exhibits nonlinear behaviour.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of public expenditure cuts on employment and income to support policies for the development of the labor mar- ket. Impact evaluation is of interest for policy makers as well as researchers. This paper presents a method – that is based on a Computable General Equilibrium model – to analyse the impact of the public expenditure cuts policy on employment and income in industries and occupations in Vietnam using macro data, the Input output table, 2006, 2008 and the 2010 Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey.
