Dental caries has been considered the heaviest worldwide oral health burden affecting a significant proportion of the population. To prevent dental caries, an appropriate and accurate early detection method is demanded. This proof-of-concept study aims to develop a two-stage computational system that can detect early occlusal caries from smartphone color images of unrestored extracted teeth according to modified International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) criteria (3 classes: Code 0; Code 1-2; Code 3-6): in the first stage, carious lesion areas were identified and extracted from sound tooth regions. Then, five characteristic features of these areas were intendedly selected and calculated to be inputted into the classification stage, where five classifiers (Support Vector Machine, Random Forests, K-Nearest Neighbors, Gradient Boosted Tree, Logistic Regression) were evaluated to determine the best one among them. On a set of 587 smartphone images of extracted teeth, our system achieved accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity that were 87.39%, 89.88%, and 68.86% in the detection stage when compared to modified visual and image-based ICDAS criteria. For the classification stage, the Support Vector Machine model was recorded as the best model with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity at 88.76%, 92.31%, and 85.21%. As the first step in developing the technology, our present findings confirm the feasibility of using smartphone color images to employ Artificial Intelligence algorithms in caries detection. To improve the performance of the proposed system, there is a need for further development in both in vitro and in vivo modeling. Besides that, an applicable system for accurately taking intra-oral images that can capture entire dental arches including the occlusal surfaces of premolars and molars also needs to be developed.

Zimbabwe has faced persistent droughts from around year 1990 to date posing a structural food security challenge to the populace. Recently, the government of Zimbabwe introduced a blue print to spearhead and map sustainable balance in tapping value from the available natural and man-made resources in the country. This is known as the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation Programme (Zim Asset). Amongst its prospects, agriculture and nutrition has been reckoned as a sustainable cluster for economic development. This study was undertaken one and half years after the implementation of Zim Asset as an evaluation mechanism on the successes and challenges faced in transforming the Zimbabwean economy with specific reference to the Food and Nutrition Cluster. The study employed both post positivism and interpretivism philosophies applying quantitative and qualitative approaches in gathering research data. The research instruments included documentary evidence, face to face in-depth interviews and focus groups. The in-depth interviews explored issues to do with resources allocation in line with the Zim Asset agriculture sustenance objectives. Focus was therefore, on the four Ministries supporting the Food and Nutrition Cluster. Eighty percent of the respondents reported that the economic blue print has not made any significant strides in improving the country’s agricultural performance and food security since the inception of Zim Asset in October 2013. It was noted that the country continued to import maize from Zambia and other countries in the region. The major reason for its lack of success was due to the unavailability of resources to support the programme and the fact that land was allocated to unproductive and cell phone farmers. There was consensus that land audit and recapitalisation of the agriculture sector were critical in achieving the desired outcomes. The study recommends that the programme be adequately funded, so that the country can become self-sufficient.

The author maintains that, with the quick development of domestic auto industry, the auto maintenance industry is progressing with high speed accordingly. The auto maintenance enterprise are inclined to focus on sales and forward supply chain operation, however, lacking of efficient resource and systematic management into reverse logistics operation, as lead to a few potential risks. In order to avoid and control the risks, the auto maintenance companies need to closely cooperate with channel supply chain partners, meanwhile build up the mode of reverse logistics operation with timing efficiency orientation. This mode consists of eight sub-system modules: organization structure, network planning and layout, reverse logistics operation procedure, time window evaluation mechanism, automatic replenishment system, reverse forecasting system, Kan-ban message system as well as disposal & reuse system. Furthermore, the article makes analysis of the internal operations and external relevance of these eight sub-systems. In recent years, with the overall opening up of road transport market and the rapid growth in domestic economy, the total number of China’s motor vehicles is entering a high-speed growth channel, and “the car goes to the country” policy further promotes the auto industry. Under the situation of quick development, the auto maintenance industry is developing by 10% to 15% each year as a young profession. According to the statistics, there are over 380,000 auto maintenance enterprises in our country at the moment, and various types of auto safety testing stations are built around one after another. The intense competition among auto maintenance manufacturing enterprises does not only focus on product quality, but also on the after-market reverse logistics. According to the statics of Gartner, 70 percent of resale is related with sales service, and 60 percent of resale is related with after market. However, except for few leading business enterprises which have realized the direct influence and value contribution of after-service reverse logistics to profit increase and customer loyalty and take action to pioneer the profit territory in the after-sale reverse logistics, the ‘price war’ is still the main competition method which the majority of enterprises adopt in the market.

This study presents a decision-support method to estimate the next year performance of corporate Operating Income Margin (OIM). It is based on a unique combination of cross-section model and the rules-based evaluation mechanism. The estimate is done in terms of broad categories, and not precise numerical values. The model is constructed as follows: its dependent variable (OIM) is one year ahead vs. the corresponding explanatory variables. This structure of the model allows us to view explanatory variables as reflecting financial potential of corporations. The evaluation component consists of a set of rules designed to identify the companies whose “potential” clearly points to an opportunity to invest. For the method presented here to succeed, it is necessary to utilize a highly reliable modeling method, even if it is “Fuzzy”. We apply Soft Regression (SR), which is a Soft Computing modeling tool based on Fuzzy Logic, and utilize all available proxy variables by creating intervals of values. Advantages of utilizing SR, and the intervals’-based modeling are extensively discussed. Modeling results for five consecutive years are consistent and stable, thus indicating high degree of reliability. Testing indicates very high success rate for the stock market related domain, the lowest being 87.9%.

Abstract This study provides information on artificial immune systems. The artificial immune system is an adaptive computational system that uses models, principles, mechanisms and functions to describe and solve the problems in theoretical immunology. Its application in various fields of science is explored. The theory of natural immune systems and the key features and algorithms of artificial immune system are analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages of protection systems based on artificial immune systems are shown. The methods for malicious software detection are studied. Some works in the field of artificial immune systems are analyzed, and the problems to be solved are identified. A new algorithm is developed for the application of Bayesian method in software using artificial immune systems, and experiments are implemented. The results of the experiment are estimated to be good. The advantages and disadvantages of AIS were shown. To eliminate the disadvantages, perfect AISs should be developed to enable the software more efficient and effective.

Geostatistics identifies the spatial structure of variables representing several phenomena and its use is becoming more intense in agricultural activities. This paper describes a computer program, based on Windows Interfaces (Borland Delphi), which performs spatial analyses of datasets through geostatistic tools: Classical statistical calculations, average, cross- and directional semivariograms, simple kriging estimates and jackknifing calculations. A published dataset of soil Carbon and Nitrogen was used to validate the system. The system was useful for the geostatistical analysis process, for the manipulation of the computational routines in a MS-DOS environment. The Windows development approach allowed the user to model the semivariogram graphically with a major degree of interaction, functionality rarely available in similar programs. Given its characteristic of quick prototypation and simplicity when incorporating correlated routines, the Delphi environment presents the main advantage of permitting the evolution of this system.
