A mechanism of the electrochemical reduction of β-(4-ethylbenzoyl)-α,β-dibromopropionic acid is suggested based on the results of classical polarography and polarography with Kalousek's switch and on the identification of the polarographically active intermediate products. The substance converts to β-4-ethylbenzoylacrylic acid on the electrochemical elimination of the bromine atoms, and the latter acid is reduced further to β-4-ethylbenzoylpropionic acid. The most negative polarographic wave corresponds to the reduction of the carbonyl group in the benzoyl part of the last acid.

The author derived theoretical dependences of preasymptotic slopes of the currentless E-t curves (potential of an indicator redox electrode against time) on the number of equivalents, n, of added oxidation agent, assuming a reaction scheme of two consecutive concurrent second-order reactions involving the formation of intermediate products ( a side reaction of the starting compound with the final oxidation product leading to an adduct, which undergoes consecutive bimolecular oxidations leading again to the final product). The dependences enable to determine the type of the relatively stable intermediate products and the ratios of the rate constants. The theory was applied to the oxidation of four symmetrically disulphonated naphthidines with cerium(IV) sulphate in aqueous sulphuric acid and the results were substantiated spectrophotometrically

AbstractSupply process is one of the most important enterprise activities. Ti3SiC2, a ternary carbide, was proposed at this paper to use as the binder of polycrystalline diamonds to overcome the weaknesses of traditional metal binders and ceramic binders. Ti3SiC2was first reported to be in-situ synthesized under high pressure (4GPa) and at high temperature (1400°C) (HPHT) from the mixtures of Ti, Si and graphite powders or the mixture of Ti, SiC and graphite powders. Ti3SiC2-damond composites were also made at HPHT from the previous mixtures and diamond particles. TiCx, Ti5Si3Cxand TiSi2were main impurities and/or intermediate products of Ti3SiC2samples synthesized at HPHT. Ti3SiC2content increased as synthesized time increased from 10 min to 60 min. For as-synthesized composites, diamond particles were evenly distributed in matrix. The diamond particles are bonded well with the matrix by three types of interface.

Pyrolysis of Hailar lignite (moisture content ~ 34.81 wt%) was investigated at temperatures ranging from 700 °C to 900 °C in two different reactors: A tubular reactor (TR) and a continuous screw kiln reactor (CSKR). Under temperature programmed-heating conditions in the TR reactor, the auto-generated steam from the lignite moisture was vaporized and swept out of the reactor by the N2flow during the long heating process, leading to a weakened effect on the subsequent reactions. However, in the CSKR tests all the volatiles was generated continuously while avoid the carrier gas dilution , significant interactions between the in situ steam and the intermediate products occurred. Upon comparing the two pyrolysis processes, it was found the CSKR process exhibits higher H2yield of 23.23 mol/kg, H2proportion of 49.82 vol % than those (16.97 mol/kg, 41.51 vol %) from the TR process. The results demonstrated that inherent moisture in Hailar lignite had a significant influence on the product yield, depending on the pyrolysis conditions. It was also shown that increase in temperature led to rising dry gas yield and H2yield.
