AbstractTraumatic dental injuries account for majority of maxillofacial injuries affecting soft tissues as well as maxillofacial bones. History of immediate local measures employed to reduce the severity of injury helps in eliciting information regarding the original condition of the injured area. Time elapsed post trauma plays a major role in determining outcome of the intervention. Goal of the treatment is directed towards achieving the pre-traumatic occlusion and intra arch contour.

Abstract: Avulsion of the permanent teeth is one of the most serious forms of traumatic dental injuries, which endangers the patients’ quality of life. Therefore, the fast and proper treatment is crucial. In this case report we will discuss the supportive and definitive functional treatment and correct rehabilitation. The traumatic force can cause complex oral and maxillofacial injuries, which comprehensive treatment constitutes a major challenge for the dentist. Here we review functional restoration of dental injuries and their definitive aesthetic solution. Orv Hetil. 2017; 158(33): 1314–1318.

AIM: Although several studies have indicated negative impacts of traumatic dental injuries on children’s quality of life, virtually none of them have explored the possible association between them and the occurrence and dental hot-cold sensitivity. The aim of this study was to study the possible association of hot-cold dental sensitivity and history of traumatic dental injuries. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study involving a representative sample of 11- to 14-year-old schoolchildren from 13 Brazilian municipalities was carried out. Data on traumatic dental injuries were collected through oral exanimations. Non-clinical data were obtained through structured interviews on socio-demographic profile and prevalence of dental hot-cold sensitivity. Non-conditional logistic regression analysis was performed for the presence of dental hot-cold sensitivity controlled for gender, maternal schooling and history of dental caries. RESULTS: The prevalence of dental hot-cold sensitivity was 30.3% and the prevalence of traumatic dental injuries was 16.6%. Schoolchildren presenting traumatic dental injuries had 22% higher prevalence of dental hot-cold sensitivity compared to those without it regardless other studied variables. CONCLUSIONS: A significant and independent association between dental hot-cold sensitivity and history of traumatic dental injuries was observed.

Epithelioid angiosarcoma is a rare and highly aggressive soft tissue angiosarcoma most commonly arising in the deep soft tissues. Given that abundant vascular cavities anastomose with each other, most angiosarcomas prone to metastasis recur quickly, and the overall prognosis is poor. We report a 25-year-old woman at 24 weeks’ gestation who presented with a 1-month history of abdominal distension. Ultrasonography suggested a mass in the right adnexa, and she underwent two operations owing to uncontrolled intraperitoneal bleeding with progressive anemia. The right ovarian tumor and right adnexa were removed successively. Biopsy yielded a diagnosis of primary epithelioid angiosarcoma with mature cystic teratoma. The patient died from uncontrolled progressive bleeding 1 week after the second operation. This case revealed that epithelial angiosarcoma is a highly malignant endothelial cell tumor. The results of surgery and chemoradiotherapy tend to be poor, and the recurrence rate is high. The purpose of this study is to raise clinical awareness of epithelial angiosarcoma and its adverse events and to provide new ideas for the treatment of these adverse events. Immunohistochemical staining of pathological specimens can facilitate diagnosis. Pregnancy with malignant tumors may lead to rapid disease progression, extensive lesions, and a poor prognosis.
