Textile-based compression interventions (e.g. compression stockings and bandages), as an essential “source of pressure”, have impacted the effectiveness of pressure dosage delivery. The homogeneous structures of traditional compression shells generate highly uneven pressure distributions around leg geometrics in a passive mode, resulting in side effects and uncomfortable wearing perception. With this in mind, new heterogeneous compression sleeves with hybrid elastic properties were fabricated utilizing advanced three-dimensional seamless knitting technology and a unique laid-in structural design. PicoPress pressure assessment revealed in vivo that the developed heterogeneous compression shells with appropriate configurations for the lower limbs demonstrated the capability to proactively reshape skin pressures around leg cross-sections via calibrated proportions of segments with hybrid elastic moduli. The reduced anterior peak focal pressures and increased pressures at muscle-dominated posterior calves together provided a promising measure to enhance pressure function and user compliance in practice. The results will contribute to the development of a new generation of heterogeneous compression stockings with “bi-axial” pressure profiles for improved compression performance in extensive applications.

This paper presents a novel solution for monitoring incontinence status through the design and development of the intelligent incontinence pants by the use of conductive yarns and incorporating advanced circular seamless knitting technology. The produced textile incorporates wire and electrodes by conductive yarn working with a siren system which can monitor, sense and alert the wearer and care provider on the incontinence status in real time so as to reduce the need for manual checking and minimize patient care workload. The engineered stitches, yarn materials, and unique seamless knitting techniques provide soft handling, special fabric mechanisms, and tactile comfort of the resulting product. The electrical resistance of knitted conductive yarn demonstrated a stable performance in wet processing. Fitting body trials were conducted to estimate product dimension and configuration. This study allows us to explore further the potential applications of conductive yarn and seamless knitting technology in bio-functional and intelligent healthcare products and solutions through integrating multidisciplinary knowledge and techniques.

Blocks are powerful mathematical tools when used to teach young children early concepts in measurement, number sense, computation, geometry, data analysis, and algebra. For nearly one hundred years, blocks have played a role in early childhood classrooms (Smith 2001). Yet not everyone understands the mathematics conceptbuilding power associated with blocks. From sorting to patterning, young children can build a strong mathematical foundation one block at a time. This article examines how blocks can be especially useful in engaging children in activities that address algebraic, geometric, and spatial thinking.

Seamless garments reducing the cutting and sewing processes are created using seamless knitting technology. This type of garment, being less dependent on labor, is knitted as a whole and makes a great contribution to improving production efficiency. More importantly, seamless garments are more comfortable and natural compared with those styles produced by traditional technology. However, the techniques of seamless garments are huge and complex, making the pattern design process more difficult. In addition, the seamless knitting technology has great restrictions to the styles with rich shapes due to the limitation of the devices. Therefore, how to knit more complex styles using seamless knitting technology still faces great challenges. For these reasons, this study extensively investigated the knitting principle of seamless garments and proposed six knitting models for different kinds of garments. Then the transformation methods from 3D style to 2D pattern were explored respectively based on the knitting characteristics of each model. Finally, by package programming in the SDS-ONE APEX design system, the actual knitting for six types of garments was conducted on the computerized flat knitting machine. The results showed that different types of seamless garments have significant differences in the pattern design and the approaches proposed above can make different kinds of garments using seamless knitting technology.

Selected four organizations in those are most frequently-used in sportswear, then weaved a common sports-vest by the seamless knitting machines. Used the methods of wind tunnel test and data analysis, reached a conclusion about the influence of the organizations to wind-resistant property of sportswear: in the winding speed scope of the experiments, when the winding speed are between 3.3 m/s and 11.55 m/s, the wind-resistant property of the four organizations are almost the same; when the winding speed are between 11.55 m/s and 18.70 m/s, the wind-resistant property are different, the order from bad to good is 1×2 false rib organization, one road off staggered 1×1 false rib organization, mesh organization, plain weave, and reached the fitting curve equation. The study provides theoretical and practical reference for the research and development of sportswear.
