AbstractThe quantitative evaluation of research is currently carried out by means of indicators calculated on data extracted and integrated by analysts who elaborate them by creating illustrative tables and plots of results. In this approach, the robustness of the metrics used and the possibility for users of the metrics to intervene in the evaluation process are completely neglected. We propose a new approach which is able to move forward, from indicators’ development to an interactive performance model’s development. It combines the advantages of the ontology-based data access paradigm with the flexibility and robustness of a visual analytics environment putting the consumer/stakeholder at the centre of the evaluation. A detailed description of such an approach is presented in the paper. The approach is illustrated and evaluated trough a comprehensive user’s study that proves the added capabilities and the benefits that a user of performance models can have by using this approach.

Depression is a condition of no mood and loss of interest in any activity that can diminish a person’s thinking, conduct, tendencies, emotional state, and a sense of well-being. Although there is a conventional class of medication which have been beneficial in the treatment of depression, current studies have reported having side effects which can be minimized by the intervention of herbs and phytochemicals. Most of the studies have proven the various mechanisms and have started to research a very ground-breaking method by glancing the ancient treatmen. Where this new approach of using the herbs and phytochemicals has shown better results alone and in combination with conventional drugs which has shown lesser adverse effects. The practice of phytomedicine is an additional option for the treatment of depression. In the various segments of treating the depression, the mainstream can be a breakthrough including phytoconstituents. In this aspect, there are many contributions for the treatment of the depression acting to the neuronal level signaling and the phytoconstituents also have shown some basic mechanisms in the treatment of depression as that of the conventional medications following some primary hypothesis and signaling pathways and life interactions that effects the brain in either way to treat the depression in all sort of way. Clinical evidence is required to provide backing to the safety and effectiveness of herbs and phytochemicals alone or in combination with currently available drugs to overcome the reported side effects during the treatment of depression.

This paper is devoted to the actual problem of cosmetology - the procedures of filament rejuvenation of face and neck, which become popular every year. Literature data on the efficacy of these methods are controversial. The authors of most works indicate the minimum number of complications in the practical absence of negative appraisal methodology. The issues of development of the indication for use of some types of filaments and optimal criteria of evaluation of the expected effect in clinical practice are relevant and are discussed in this paper. Taking into account the absence of objective information about long-term consequences, other practical aspects of filament rejuvenation, the authors on the basis of many years of research and experience has specified evaluation criteria and suggested own classification of cosmetic filaments used in the method of filament rejuvenation of face and neck. Installation of filaments with different cosmetic features allows to reaching three different anti-aging effects: lifting, reinforcing and bio-stimulation. The degree of manifestation of these effects depends on the installation method of the thread, but first of all - on the design of conductive filament and needle or cannula. Based on the above data, the authors propose to divide all known cosmetic filaments on the basis of their purpose, proceeding from the achieved effect for three species - lifting, reinforcing and bio-stimulating. The new classification can be used in practice to optimize the selection of filaments for rejuvenation of face and neck and to reduce unintended side effects. The proposed classification of filaments has the purpose of definition of a fundamental criterion for their beauty opportunities. The practical application of this classification contributes to ensure adequate choice of filaments to perform the procedure, reduce side effects and create realistic expectations of doctors and patients from the procedures of the rejuvenation of face and neck.

Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) offer a convenient, safe, effective, and reversible method of contraception. However, their use is limited by side effects. Several strategies have been suggested to make COC use more acceptable among women. Reduction in the dose of estrogen is a commonly accepted approach to reduce the side effects of COC. Use of newer generation of progestins, such as gestodene, reduces the androgenic side effects generally associated with progestogens. Furthermore, reduction in hormone-free interval, as a 24/4 regimen, can reduce the risk of escape ovulation (hence preventing contraceptive failure) and breakthrough bleeding. It also reduces hormonal fluctuations, thereby reducing the withdrawal symptoms. A COC with gestodene 60 µg and ethinylestradiol (EE) 15 µg offers the lowest hormonal dose in 24/4 treatment regimen. This regimen has been shown to offer good contraceptive efficacy and cycle control. With the progress of treatment cycles, the incidence of breakthrough bleeding reduces. Gestodene/EE low dose 24/4 regimen was associated with lower incidence of estrogen-related adverse events, such as headache, breast tenderness, and nausea. Furthermore, COCs containing low dose of estrogen have not been associated with any adverse effect on haemostasis in healthy women. Ultra-low-dose COCs can be considered in women who are at risk of developing estrogen-related side effects.

Magnetic particle targeting is a new approach in cancer drug administration which aims to reduce side effects, increase healing rate and reduce treatment time. For this purpose a therapeutic agent is equipped with a magnetizable membrane and administered intravenously. A rare earth magnet can then be used to target cancerous tissue in proximity of the blood vessel.

During the bending of tubes, specific geometric deviations from the desired shape geometry occur. These deformations comprise cross-sectional deformation, wall-thinning of the outer arc and wall-thickening of the inner arc. During the bending of parts with small bend factors, geometric deviations on the inner arc in form of waves and wrinkles may arise as other typical quality criteria. A quantitative evaluation of those deviations has yet to be defined. Currently, only an instruction for measuring the height of the wrinkles at the inner arc according to DIN EN 13480-4 is known. In this standard, only the two highest wrinkles and the valley in between are included. The characteristics of the wrinkle, especially the flank angle and the rise of deformation are disregarded, although they are responsible for the failure of the bent part. Tool damages can also occur. A development of an evaluation factor to assess deformations in the bow area for bent parts is presented in this paper. In addition, it will be possible to quantify geometric deviations in the bow area. By using the newly developed evaluation factor for geometrical deformations in the bow area, the determination of the quality of the bent part should become more reproducible.

A technique is described for quantitative evaluation of inert gas narcosis in animals. The response of 46 adult Wistar rats to minimal electroshock was used in 102 experiments to determine the narcotic effect of nitrogen at 12.6 and 13.5 atm abs and argon at 12.6 atm abs, before and after the oral, intraperitoneal, and intravenous administration of alpha-(4-piperidyl)benzhydrol hydrochloride. The drug controlled the narcotic effect produced by these inert gases at pressure without, so far as could be observed, the occurrence of undesirable side effects. The effective dose was 40 mg (130–150 mg/kg body wt). Lower doses were only partially effective. The maximum protective action of the drug was some 48 hr after its administration.
