The biomaterials are used for many biomedical applications. The main objective of the present work was to investigate the potential role of Bioglass (Melting)- Polyvinyl alcohol (BG (M)-PVA) and Bioglass (Melting)-Polyvinyl alcohol-20%Ciprofloxacin (BG (M)-PVA-20Cip) in regenerative bone capacity. These composites were implanted in the femoral condyles of Wistar rats and compared to that of ovariectomised groups. Our results noted, after the different period of implantation (15, 30, 60 and 90 days), that the Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Acid phosphatase (ACP) activities showed an excellent osteoinductive property of BG (M)-PVA, that this phenomena decreased with the presence of ciprofloxacin. Physico-chemical techniques (ICP-OES and SEM) were engaged to highlight the influence of antibiotic on the structure, porosity and bioactivity of a porous Glass-PVA before and after implantation. The results obtained by ICP-OES showed a rapid reduction in silicon (Si) and sodium (Na), and noted an accelerator increase in calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) ion concentrations in BG (M)-PVA that the BG (M)-PVA-20Cip. This result is confirmed by SEM. We can conclude that the loading of ciprofloxacin in BG (M)-PVA is characterized by a retard effect of formation of apatitic phase.

Three different types of nanoparticles, 1D Cloisite 30B clay nanoplatelets, 2D halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), and 3D nanobamboo charcoals (NBCs) were employed to investigate the impact of nanoparticle shapes and structures on the material performance of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) bionanocomposite films in terms of their mechanical and thermal properties, morphological structures, and nanomechanical behaviour. The overall results revealed the superior reinforcement efficiency of NBCs to Cloisite 30B clays and HNTs, owing to their typical porous structures to actively interact with PVA matrices in the combined formation of strong mechanical and hydrogen bondings. Three-dimensional NBCs also achieved better nanoparticle dispersibility when compared with 1D Cloisite 30B clays and 2D HNTs along with higher thermal stability, which was attributed to their larger interfacial regions when characterised for the nanomechanical behaviour of corresponding bionanocomposite films. Our study offers an insightful guidance to the appropriate selection of nanoparticles as effective reinforcements and the further sophisticated design of bionanocomposite materials.

Lesions indistinguishable from those of the generalized Shwartzman reaction occured in rabbits when a single intravenous injection of Gram-negative bacterial endotoxin was accompanied, or followed, by an injection of one of the following synthetic, heparin-like, acidic polymers-sodium polyanethol sulfonate, dextran sulfate, or sodium polyvinyl alcohol sulfonate. These reactions were produced by doses of polymer or of endotoxin which were without demonstrable effect when given singly. Heparin, in those similar to those previously shown to protect rabbits against the lesions of the generalized Shwartzman reaction, prevented the reaction to the combined injection of endotoxin and acidic polymers. Nitrogen mustard, which was previously shown to prevent the lesions of the generalized Shwartzman reaction from occurring after two intravenous injections of endotoxin, had no protective action against the lesions produced by the combined injection of endotoxin and polymer. Cortisone did not affect the reaction to endotoxin and polymer. The role of fibrinogen in the reaction under study is discussed in the paper which follows.

Polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel has compatibility and biomechanical properties of human articular cartilage similar and good biological. The implantation in the human body can replace part of articular cartilage, which plays the role of bearing and alleviate the impact force. It has the prospect of clinical application. This paper introduces the research progress of polyvinyl alcohol hydro-gel materials. And compared with the characteristics of articular cartilage, clarify the possibility of repair of articular cartilage defects of the materials.
