This work investigated the chemical and phase composition of aluminum oxide powders obtained by various methods (alkoxide, codeposition, thermal and plasma-chemical). The physicomechanical, thermophysical and thermal properties of ceramic samples based on them have been determined. The effect of the nature of the aluminum oxide powder and the production process parameters on the sedimentation stability of aqueous suspensions based on them has been determined. The influence of the content of particles of aluminum oxide, buffer solution and rheological additives on the viscosity, sedimentation and aggregate stability of aqueous suspensions has been determined.

The gonadotropic hormone of the blood of the pregnant mare has been greatly concentrated by adsorption on active aluminum hydroxide followed by elution. The preparations so obtained gave demonstrable gonadotropic effects within 100 hours in 21 day old female mice following three subcutaneous injections of 0.001 mg. in 1 cc. of physiological saline. As is well known, other gonadotropic substances do not cause conspicuous development of the male gonads but injections of comparatively large doses of these preparations into immature male rats caused marked development of the testes, which in 10 days were trebled in weight. An astonishing increase in the weight of the seminal vesicles resulted, for these organs were approximately 75 times heavier than in controls.

Analysis of forming chromium-bearing ferroalloys production waste in Russian Federation was performed. Chemical, phase, fractional compositions and physico-chemical, technological properties of high-carbon ferrochromium slag were defined. Physico-chemical, thermo-mechanical and thermo-physical properties of fire-resistant materials, obtained from ferrochromium production slag and dust, were researched. It was shown that researched waste may be utilized as raw for fire-resistant materials production. Because of their chemical and phase composition, researched materials may be utilized for production of forsterite-spinel-based and forsterite-spinel-periclase-based fire-resistant materials. Technological properties of researched materials allow obtaining dense strength fire-resistant materials. Such fire-resistant materials are promising in the field of ferrous metallurgy (lining up furnaces, ladles and overflow launders in ferroalloys production).

MgO-Al2O3-TiO2 composite refractories were prepared by using magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) and titanium dioxide as main starting materials and being sintered at high temperature. The influences of titanium dioxide additions on the room temperature physical properties, phase composition and microstructure were investigated. The phase composition and microstructure were tested by means of XRD and SEM. The results revealed that with increasing TiO2 content, the densification of the composites first increased sand then decreased and maximized at 4% TiO2 loading. This showed appropriate amount of TiO2 could contribute to the sintering of the composites due to the solid solution of TiO2 in magnesium aluminate spinel.
