Reaction of primary C(55)-allylic alcohol moraprenol (WT(3)C(7-9)-OH, a polyprenol from mulberry leaves) with triethylamine in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride leads to a quaternary ammonium chloride with a good yield (72%) and high cis-stereoselectivity of the terminal isoprene unit. Cationic polyprenyl derivatives may be useful for transfection and immunological studies.

In order to obtain some novel cationic surfactants with high surface activity, n-octadecyldimethylamine and epichlorohydrin were used to synthesize 2-hydroxy-1, 3-dis (chloride octadecyl dimethyl ammonium) propane, which was a kind of gemini quaternary ammonium salt. N-octadecyldimethylamine and epichlorohydrin were used to prepare active epoxy intermediate glycidyloctadecyldimethyl ammonium chlorided, and then glycidyloctadecyldimethyl ammonium chlorided was reacted with octadecyldimethyl amine hydrochloride to synthesize the gemini cationic surfactant. FTIR and 1H NMR were used to represent structure of the gemini cationic surfactant. The interface characteristics were studied in detail. The critical micellar concentration (CMC) was determined by surface tension test to obtain the values of CMC and surface tension at CMC. The foam ability and foam stability of the gemini cationic surfactant were also discussed through contrast octadecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride and cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride.

In this investigation, dodecyl dimethyl(vinylbenzyl)ammonium chloride is applied to modify properties of polyethylene, and it is greatly focused on influences of it on the thermal properties and mechanical properties of this polymer. The results demonstrate that addition of this compound into polyethylene has little effect on thermal properties except for little improvement of its glass temperature, although it has reactive double bond in its molecular. Moreover, it is observed that it can enhance mechanical properties of this polymer and its addition has little change in colors of bulk materials. Therefore, it is believed that these excellent properties help to drive this antibacterial compound in applications.

Partial molar volumes [Formula: see text] of the Fe2+, Ni2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Rh3+, and M(NH3)5OH3+ (M = Cr, Co, Rh, Ir) aqueous ions have been obtained by extrapolation from density measurements at 298.15 K on the perchlorate salt solutions containing added HClO4 where necessary to suppress hydrolysis or oxidation. The values for these high-spin aqua-ions and others in the literature can be represented satisfactorily for ionic charges z = 1 through 4 by[Formula: see text]where [Formula: see text] is the absolute partial molar volume in cm3 mol−1 of Mz+(aq) relative to [Formula: see text] for H+(aq), and r is the Shannon radius in pm of Mz+ with coordination number nc. Volumes of activation ΔVex* for water exchange correlate inversely with [Formula: see text] within the series M2+(aq) and M(NH3)5OH23+(aq) at least, allowing predictions of ΔVex* to be made from [Formula: see text] or the above equation. The physical origin of these correlations is considered.
