We employ arguments involving continua of fixed points of suitable nonlinear compact operators and the Lyapunov–Schmidt method to prove existence and multiplicity of solutions in a class of fourth order non-homogeneous resonant elliptic problems. Our main result extends even similar ones known for the Laplacian.

PurposeThis article aims to compare smart meters' acceptance studies worldwide to consolidate trends and highlight factors that are not a consensus.Design/methodology/approachThis work performs a statistical meta-analysis, using the Hunter–Schmidt method and the UTAUT2 model, of the factors of acceptance of smart meters in the world literature. A meta-regression was also conducted to verify the moderation exercised by gender, level of education and timeline context of the articles.FindingsThe main results point to hedonic motivation, performance expectancy and effort expectancy as the leading influencers for smart meter's acceptance. Meta-regression indicates that the influence is more significant among the male gender and that over the years, the social influence must gain weight in the smart meter's acceptance.Social implicationsSpecific strategies are suggested to improve projects for the implementation of smart meters based on the obtained results.Originality/valueThe contribution given by this work is relevant, considering it is the first meta-analysis focused on smart meters' acceptance published in the literature

A series of novel 4- O-alkyltriazolylphenolic derivatives is first synthesized with good to excellent yields via the click reaction of 3-methoxy-4- O-propargylbenzaldehyde or 3-allyl-4- O-propargylacetophenone and aromatic azide derivatives. Next, the chalcones are prepared via the Claisen-Schmidt method from 4- O-alkylphenylketone derivatives in the presence of the corresponding (hetero)aromatic aldehydes as electrophiles. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds are confirmed from their infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance spectral data, and by elemental analysis. The main advantages of this procedure are the simplicity of the reaction conditions, easily available starting materials, and simple work-up. The antioxidant activity of several of the products is determined using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate) radical scavenging assay. 4- O-propargylvanillin (IC50 = 14.54 µg/mL) had moderate antioxidant activity.

SynopsisThe existence of zeroes of an operator in Banach space near a. known zero is examined, when the non-degeneracy condition of Magnus [1] is violated, and replaced by a condition which is called simple-degeneracy. Criteria are given which help determine the number and the structure of curves of zeroes of the operator, passing through the known zero. These conditions and results are interpreted in terms of bifurcation theory. By considering several different cases, it is shown that the failure of various conditions frequently employed in the Lyapunov–Schmidt method may be overcome using the idea of simple-degeneracy.

This article reports the integral transform that determines the particle size distribution of a given sample from the small-angle scattering intensity under the assumption that the particle correlation function is a polynomial of degreeM. The Fedorova–Schmidt solution [Fedorova & Schmidt (1978).J. Appl. Cryst.11, 405–411] corresponds to the caseM= 3. The procedure for obtaining a polynomial approximation to a particle correlation function is discussed in the casesM= 3 and 4 and applied to the cases of polydisperse particles of tetrahedral, octahedral or cubic shape.

We prove that if the Lyapunov–Schmidt method is applicable, then the critical groups at infinity of the reduced functional are isomorphic to those of the original functional. This observation, combining with our results on the critical groups of finite dimensional functional, enables us to compute the critical groups at infinity. New multiplicity results for resonant elliptic boundary value problems are obtained as applications.

Pan-sharpened transformation methods improve the quality of spatial resolution remote sensing imagery. This study used pan-sharpened analysis to improve the quality of image. Pan-sharpening method was used to increase spatial quality of each research object. The aims of reserach were to study image sharpening using Quickbird imagery (multispectral band and pancromatic band) and to calculate overall accuracy of land use classification base on pan-sharpened imagery classification. This study used Brovey transformation and Gram-Schmidt transformation for pan-sharpened process. The classification system used Suharyadi Classification scheme (2001) for urban areas. The results showed that Brovey transformation better than gram-schmidt transformation for the elements of texture, shape, pattern, height, and shading. Gram-Schmidt method was more suitable for the analysis concerned to its original color combination associated with the color or hue of the elements of visual interpretation.
