Abstract We present a global interpretation of Higgs, diboson, and top quark production and decay measurements from the LHC in the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) at dimension six. We constrain simultaneously 36 independent directions in its parameter space, and compare the outcome of the global analysis with that from individual and two-parameter fits. Our results are obtained by means of state-of-the-art theoretical calculations for the SM and the EFT cross-sections, and account for both linear and quadratic corrections in the 1/Λ2 expansion. We demonstrate how the inclusion of NLO QCD and $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (Λ−4) effects is instrumental to accurately map the posterior distributions associated to the fitted Wilson coefficients. We assess the interplay and complementarity between the top quark, Higgs, and diboson measurements, deploy a variety of statistical estimators to quantify the impact of each dataset in the parameter space, and carry out fits in BSM-inspired scenarios such as the top-philic model. Our results represent a stepping stone in the ongoing program of model-independent searches at the LHC from precision measurements, and pave the way towards yet more global SMEFT interpretations extended to other high-pT processes as well as to low-energy observables.

I present theoretical calculations for Higgs-boson and top-quark production, including high-order soft-gluon corrections. I discuss charged-Higgs production in association with a top quark or a W boson, as well as single-top and top-antitop production. Total cross sections as well as transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions of the top quark or the Higgs boson are presented for various LHC energies.

Recent measurements in the top quark sector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider are discussed. Measurements at the Tevatron use up to 9.7 fb-1 of data corresponding to the full data sets recorded by each of the experiments, CDF and DØ. This review discusses the most recent measurements of inclusive and differential top quark cross-sections in strong and electroweak production of top quarks and related measurements, as well as measurements of angular distributions related to asymmetries in top quark production. Furthermore, the current status of precision measurements of the mass of the top quark is discussed. Where available, combinations of CDF and DØ results are presented.

The fully differential cross sections of t-channel production of a single top quark with its subsequent decay are compared for the case of contributions involving anomalous Wtb couplings. It is shown that the most noticeable differences, for cases corresponding to different anomalous couplings, appear in the shape of two-dimensional distributions, where one of the variables is the energy of a charged lepton and the other is one of the t-quark spin orientation angles.

I review calculations of soft-gluon corrections for top-quark production in hadron collisions. I describe theoretical formalisms for their resummation and for finite-order expansions. I show that soft-gluon corrections are dominant for a large number of top-quark processes. I discuss top–antitop pair production as well as single-top production, including total cross sections and differential distributions, and compare with data from the LHC and the Tevatron. I also discuss top-quark production in association with charged Higgs bosons, Z bosons and other particles in models of new physics.

The impact of anomalous Wtb couplings on tWb process of the single top quark production has been probed in different schemes of tWb modeling. A special attention devotes to influence of the particular schemes to the anomalous couplings sensitivity. The distributions of representative variables demonstrate different behaviour in different simulation schemes, therefore the correct probe for anomalous Wtb couplings require specific approach to simulate BSM contribution. Special approach to search for BSM contribution in the off-shell tWb process is proposed in this paper. The approach is based on the kinematic separation of the double and single resonant contributions by means of neural network. The specific BSM properties are considered separately for the double and single resonant events. Such approach allows to add information on the anomalous Wtb coupling from simultaneous consideration of the tt¯ (double resonant) and tWb (off-shell, single resonant) contribution of tWb processes and therefore can improve the sensitivity to the anomalous Wtb couplings.
