The organic-inorganic hybrid sol was prepared using an alkaline silica sol modified by acid-catalyzed hydrolytic polycondensation of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) in a water-bath condition of 60oC, and then the water-based primer and topcoat were prepared through adding the pigments and nano-TiO2 suspension respectively. Through spraying and baking, the organicinorganic composite coating on the treated aluminum alloy was obtained. The optimum range of P/B (weight ratio of the pigment/binder) is determined between 1:1 and 1.5:1 by investigating the influence of the P/B of the primer on the adhesion and impact resistance of the coating. The microstructure of the coating was characterized by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that there are lots of holes and lamellar structure in the primer coating and the obtained topcoat coating is uniform, smooth and dense. The coating of ~30 μm in thickness is mainly composed of three elements of silicon, aluminum and titanium, in which transition layer of ~10 μm is included. The physicochemical properties suggest that the coatings on aluminum alloy can meet the needs of finishing coating very well.

AA6061 Aluminum alloy welded joint using two different filler metals were studied by using X-ray CT-Scan. The filler metals ER 4043 and ER 5356 were used in this present work in order to investigate the effect of using different filler metals on the welded joint quality of AA 6061 aluminum alloy in welded zone microstructure. Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) technique and V grove butt joint with four layers and five passes welded joint were performed. From this investigation, it is found that AA6061 with ER 4043 showed less distribution of porosity compared to AA6061 with ER 5356 welded joint confirmed by X-ray Ct-Scan. The decreasing of porosities and presence of very fine grains in weld region area with ER 5356 compared to ER 4043 will be discussed in term of microstructure analysis.

When selecting a casing material for fields with a high content of H2S and CO2, it is recommended to use specialized corrosion-resistant tubulars with high content of chrome of the Sanicro 29 type. The high cost of the material can be critical for the project economy. A promising approach for these problems elimination could be the application of aluminium alloy casing pipes. They are remain inert to corrosion even if the formation environment is fully saturated with H2S and/or CO2. They are also lightweight, have high strength-to-weight ratio, and thus decrease the existing tensions in the string and reduce well construction costs.

The use of aluminum alloys, nowadays, is swiftly growing from the prerequisite of producing higher strength to weight ratio. Lightweight components are crucial interest in most manufacturing sectors, especially in transportation, aviation, maritime, automotive, and others. Traditional available joining methods have an adverse effect on joining these lightweight engineering materials, increasing needs for new environmentally friendly joining methods. Hence, friction stir welding (FSW) is introduced. Friction stir welding is a relatively new welding process that can produce high-quality weld joints with a lightweight and low joining cost with no waste. This paper endeavors to deals with optimizing process parameters for quality criteria on tensile and hardness strengths. Samples were taken from a 5 mm 6061-T6 aluminum alloy sheet with butt joint configuration. Controlled process parameters tool profile, rotational speed and transverse speed were utilized. The process parameters are optimized making use of the combination of Grey relation analysis method and L9 orthogonal array. Mechanical properties of the weld joints are examined through tensile, hardness, and liquid penetrant tests at room temperature. From this research, rotational speed and traverse speed become significant parameters at a 99% confidence interval, and the joint efficiency reached 91.3%.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of activating fluxes on the weld bead geometry, hot cracking susceptibility and mechanical property of A356 and 6061 aluminum alloy dissimilar welds in the gas metal arc (GMA) welding process. In this activated GMA welding process, there were nine single-component fluxes used in the initial experiment to evaluate the penetration capability of butt-joint GMA welds. The grey relational analysis (GRA) was employed to obtain the better weld bead geometry of welds that were considered with multiple quality characteristics. Based on higher grey relational grade (GRG), four single-component fluxes were selected to create mixed-component flux in the next stage. The experimental results showed that the GMA welds coated with activating flux were provided with better geometry of dissimilar welds. The experimental procedure of activated GMA welding process not only produced a significant increase in tensile strength of welds, but also improved the hot cracking susceptibility of aluminum alloy welds.
