Drawing on data from a qualitative study of sponsored and professional female climbers, this article offers a timely examination of the digital labor undertaken by women seeking to forge identities and livelihoods in sport. Female climbers are increasingly turning to social media to generate visibility and sponsorship opportunities in response to the changing social and commercial imperatives of sport, yet the perspective of participants is lacking in existing academic research. The theoretical framework of “athletic labor of femininity” is deployed to explore sportswomen’s decision making when producing social media content. This study departs from previous investigations by considering the sociotechnical aspects of platform algorithms in female climbers’ efforts to remain visible online, and attempts to avoid controversy that can deter followers.

Abstract Caring relationships between older residents and nurse aides are fundamental in terms of service delivery in nursing homes. However, little is known for the nuanced dynamics of this relationship in China. The purpose of this study is to explore how caring relationships develop between older residents and nurse aides in the nursing home setting in urban China. Informed by the dyadic perspective, this study illustrates the development process and relational nuances by simultaneously eliciting residents’ and nurse aides’ perceptions. This qualitative study purposively sampled 20 matched resident-nurse aide dyads (N= 40) in a government-sponsored nursing home in Shanghai. Participants participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews from January to June 2017. Thematic analysis was performed. The findings reveal that the caring relationship began with nursing home assignment and primarily focused on instrumental assistance. Gradually, emotional involvement grew within dyads and reciprocity emerged. Based on different dyadic perceptions, this study conceptualized four types of caring relationships: (a) parent-child alike, (b) mutually respectful, (c) solo performance, and (d) reasonably detached. The findings suggest that residents and nurse aides could have different views on caring relationships, which further influenced the relationship development. The four types of caring relationships shared some similar traits while differentiating from some of the common types of interactions found in the existing nursing evidence across the world. Chinese filial tradition also influenced the relationship dynamics.

Through interviews with 22 middle-class mothers and their adolescent children, we explored contemporary approaches to parenting in urban China. The participants provided evidence of authoritative parenting style. We also examined the applicability of Chao’s construct of Chinese parenting guan (管) for adolescence; the participants seemed to support the idea, but viewed the underlying meaning of guan differently than described in earlier studies conducted with mothers of younger children. We thus argue that guanjiao (管教), which means “to govern and to educate/teach,” may be a more appropriate word to use than guan to describe urban, middle-class Chinese mothers’ approach to parenting of adolescents. The findings also suggest that neither Chao’s construct of guan nor Baumrind’s prototypes could fully capture its essence. Additional elements, such as modeling, self-sacrifice, and expression of affection through behavior, also emerged as common themes.

“Hydropic degeneration” of the hepatocytes are often found in biopsy of the liver of some kinds of viral hepatitis. Light microscopic observation, compareted with the normal hepatocytes, they are enlarged, sometimes to a marked degree when the term “balloning” degeneration is used. Their cytoplasm rarefied, and show some clearness in the peripheral cytoplasm, so, it causes a hydropic appearance, the cytoplasm around the nuclei is granulated. Up to the present, many studies belive that main ultrastructural chenges of hydropic degeneration of the hepatocytes are results of the RER cristae dilatation with degranulation and disappearance of glycogen granules.The specimens of this study are fixed with the mixed fluid of the osmium acidpotassium of ferricyanide, Epon-812 embed. We have observed 21 cases of biopsy specimens with chronic severe hepatitis and severe chronic active hepatitis, and found that the clear fields in the cytoplasm actually are a accumulating place of massive glycogen. The granules around the nuclei are converging mitochondria, endoplasm reticulum and other organelles.
