Due to decentralization of Internet of Things(IoT) applications and anything, anytime, anywhere connectivity has increased burden of data processing and decision making at IoT end devices. This overhead initiated new bugs and vulnerabilities thus security threats are emerging and presenting new challenges on these end devices. IoT End Devices rely on Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) by implementing Root of trust (RoT) as soon as power is on thus forming Chain of trust (CoT) to ensure authenticity, integrity and confidentiality of every bit and byte of Trusted Computing Base (TCB) but due to un-trusted external world connectivity and security flaws such as Spectre and meltdown vulnerabilities present in the TCB of TEE has made CoT unstable and whole TEE are being misutilized. This paper suggests remedial solutions for the threats arising due to bugs and vulnerabilities present in the different components of TCB so as to ensure the stable CoT resulting into robust TEE.

The chapter discusses various security challenges in the design of the internet of things and their possible solutions. After presenting a precise introduction to the internet of things, its applications, and technologies enabling it, the chapter discusses its various architectures and models which follow with an introduction of development kits, boards, platforms, hardware, software, and devices used in the internet of things. A concise explanation and discussion on the internet of things standards and protocols with emphasis on their security is presented. Next, various possible security threats and attacks to the internet of things are presented. The subsequent sections of the chapter discuss identified security challenges at individual layers of various models along with their possible solutions. It further presents cryptographic and lightweight cryptographic primitives for the internet of things, existing use of cryptography in the internet of things protocols, security challenges, and its prospectus.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a hot and emerging topic nowadays. In the world of today, all kinds of devices are supposed to be connected and all types of information are exchanged. This makes human daily life easier and much more intelligent than before. However, this life mode is vulnerable to several security threats. In fact, the mobile networks, by nature, are more exposed to malicious attacks that may read confidential information and modify or even drop important data. This risk should be taken in consideration prior to any construction of mobile networks especially in the coming 5G technology. The present paper aims to provide a contribution in securing such kinds of environment by proposing a new protocol that can be implemented in ad hoc networks.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh Networks enable flexible and reliable communications for low-power Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Most BLE-based mesh protocols are implemented as overlays on top of the standard Bluetooth star topologies while using piconets and scatternets. Nonetheless, mesh topology support has increased the vulnerability of BLE to security threats, since a larger number of devices can participate in a BLE Mesh network. To address these concerns, BLE version 5 enhanced existing BLE security features to deal with various authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality issues. Despite of the BLE version 5 security enhancements, viable IDS solutions for BLE Mesh networks remain a nascent research area.
