In order to realize instant and accurate safety monitoring and early warning of key segments of coal mines, the development, structure and characteristics of "Internet of Things" (IOT) were discussed, which indicated that EPC Global and Ubiquitous ID (UID) systems are the most prevalent two models and Both contain “acquisition, transmission, processing and feedback of information”. After that, the physical model of safety expert system (SES) was established based on IOT, and the information acquisition segment was also introduced, which functioned as the core in the whole system. SES was thus utilized in coal mines which include different monitoring and control systems such as underground personnel monitoring system and automatic control system of main fan, and also an application example was discussed. The results show that the SES will be of great importance in safety monitoring and alerting of coal mines and worth promotion.

Safety problem has been one of the major issues in coal mining process. Therefore, a perfect mine safety monitoring system is necessary. It is one of the important aspects of a safety monitoring system how to acquire the exact position information real-timely of staff underground coal mines. To solve the problem of how to acquire of miners position, based on coal mine structure characteristics, with Zigbee technology, a kind of position system of underground coal mines is designed in the paper, and the efficiency of mine safety monitoring system can be improved greatly.

With the higher and higher demands to the safety in coal mines and the development of the enterprises themselves, the security problems in coal mines already become the most important ones. Because of many hidden dangers existing in coal mines, the accidents that make the heavy economic losses and personnel casualty occurs frequently in China coal mines. It shows that the existing safety monitoring systems in coal mines has some insufficiencies. By researching on the collection of human physiology information, the design of wireless sensor network node and wireless networking technology, the system applies ZigBee technology into the environment of coal mine roadway safety production, which realizes the detecting of daily work environment of coal mine roadway as well as the real time monitoring of the location and status of the trapped people underground when safety accident happens so as to provide accurate information for rescue.

The necessary regulatory requirements of the legislation of Ukraine on this issue have been considered in detail. A solution to the problem of creating modern equipment for monitoring the safety of production processes in coal mines through a new approach and a change in concept has been proposed.
