The nanocrystalline TiC1-xNx powders were synthesized by high energy milling from the mixture of Ti and carbon black in nitrogen milling atmosphere. The phase transformation and powder morphology characteristics were studied by using XRD and SEM. The results show that nanocrystalline TiC1-xNx powders were fabricated successfully by milling for 24 h at a rotational speed of 450 rpm in planetary ball-mill. The formation mechanism was mechanically induced self-propagating reactive synthesis (MSR). According to changing the mole ratio of C to Ti, serial TiC1-xNx powders can be produced, including TiC7N3, TiC5N5, and TiC3N7.

This paper describes the mechanism of a small dual-planetary ball mill which is used in the laboratory, and using the discrete element software PFC3D to establish corresponding model of the milling tank in dual-planetary ball mill and the ball medium in tank. The big wheel under different rotational speed affects the average contact stress and the different filling rate of 8 mm ball medium affects the average stress, which are applied to simulation research, and we draw the corresponding conclusion.

This paper studies the structural changes of the mixture of fly ash and A12O3 grinded by planetary ball mill . By investigating the structure of the ground product by SEM, XRD and FT-IR, the mechanism of mullite formation is discussed. The crystal structure of the mixture was destroyed by the grinding of planetary ball mill, and with the grinding time increases, the specific surface area of the mixture increases as well. And this leads to the decrease of bond energy, the increase of the internal energy and the decrease of the activation energy. After this process, uniform mixture and direct formation of signal phase mullite can be obtained from the mixture grinded for 30 hours and calcined at 1150°C for 2 hours and the temperature for mixture ungrinded needs to reach 1450°C.

Barium-titanate powder was mechanically activated in a planetary-ball mill for 60 and 120 minutes. Non-isothermal sintering of non-activated and activated powder samples was investigated using a dilatometer in the temperature interval from room to 1380oC with three different heating rates (10, 20 and 30oC/min). Early-stage sintering mechanisms for all three types of samples were analyzed, showing significant differences between the non-activated and mechanically activated samples.
