O objetivo do presente estudo in vitro foi verificar, através de teste de cisalhamento, a resistência de união da liga Wironia®light, à base de níquel-cromo sem berílio, sujeita a diferentes tratamentos de superfície, às cerâmicas Vita VM13 e Noritake. Foram confeccionados oitenta espécimes cilíndricos metálicos, com o auxílio de uma matriz de aço, nas dimensões de 4 mm de diâmetro por 4 mm de altura. Os espécimes foram divididos em oito grupos (n=10), de acordo com o tipo de tratamento superficial aplicado à liga metálica e com o tipo de cerâmica testada. Estes foram avaliados de acordo com os critérios de resistência ao cisalhamento e, com o auxílio de microscopia óptica, foi avaliada a área de cerâmica remanescente aderida ao metal após a fratura. Os corpos-de-prova do G6 (fabricados em Cerâmica Noritake com jateamento-26,401 ± 11,637 MPa) apresentaram maior resistência ao cisalhamento (p> 0,05) enquanto que os menores valores foram registrados no G4 (Cerâmica Vita com utilização de broca-13,440 ± 7,766 MPa). G6 (19425,4 μm2) apresentou a maior área de cerâmica aderida ao metal (p> 0,05) enquanto que o G4 (2310,2 μm2) apresentou a menor área. Concluiu-se que G6 obteve os valores mais altos de resistência ao cisalhamento e de remanescente cerâmico aderido à superfície metálica enquanto que o G4 obteve os valores mais baixos. The accuracy of newly developed ceramic materials is still being studied. Marginal and internal adaptation are known factors that have an essential impact on the long term success of dental restorations. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of heat-pressed and milled monolithic glass-ceramic restorations based on their ceramic type, processing technique, and in vitro thermocycling. Thirty-two crowns were studied and divided into four groups (n = 8), according to the ceramic material (feldspathic glass-ceramic (F) and zirconia reinforced lithium silicate glass-ceramic (ZLS)) and to their technological obtaining processes (milling (M) and heat-pressing (P)). A typodont preparation was scanned with a D2000 3D scanner to obtain identical 32 resin 3D-printed abutment teeth. Marginal and internal gaps were measured using the silicone replica technique under 40× magnification. The crowns were further cemented and thermally aged for 10,000 cycles After cementation and thermocycling of the samples, marginal and internal gaps were assessed using micro-CT (micro-computed tomography)) analysis. Data were statistically analyzed using statistical tests. Significant differences were found before and after cementation and thermocycling among the tested materials (p < 0.05). Related to technological processing, significant differences were seen in the marginal area between FP and FM (p < 0.05) Significant differences were also found in the axial and occlusal areas between the ZLSP and ZLSM. Thermocycling and cementation did not have a significant effect on the tested materials (p < 0.05). The technological processes influenced the marginal and internal fit of the crowns in favor of the CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing)technologies. Thermal aging had little effect on marginal adaptability; it increased the values for all the tested samples in a small way, but the values remained in their clinically acceptable range for all of the crowns.

Metal ceramic restorations have been implicated for the discoloration in area of labiogingivalmargin. Attempts to rectify this, by altering the design of metal frameworkswill lead to decrease in fracture strength atmargin. This in vitro study compared the fracture strength at margins of metal ceramic crowns cemented to metal tooth analogs. Crowns evaluated with different marginal configurations, shoulder and shoulder bevel with 0 mm, 0.5 mm, 1 mm, and 1.5 mm, were selected.Methods. Maxillary right canine typhodont tooth was prepared to receive a metal ceramic crown with shoulder margin. This was duplicated to get 20 metal teeth analogs. Then the same tooth was reprepared to get shoulder bevel configuration. These crowns were then cemented onmetal teeth analogs and tested for fracture strength atmargin on an Instron testing machine. A progressive compressive load was applied using 6.3 mm diameter rod with crosshead speed of 2.5 mm per minute. Statisticaly analysis was performed with ANOVA, Student's “t” test and “f” test.Results. The fracture strength of collarless metal ceramic crowns under study exceeded the normal biting force. Therefore it can be suggested that collarless metal ceramic crowns with shoulder or shoulder bevel margins up to 1.5 mm framework reduction may be indicated for anteriormetal ceramic restorations.Significance. k Collarless metal ceramic crowns have proved to be successful for anterior fixed restorations. Hence, it may be subjected to more clinical trials.
