AbstractTo find novel classes of potential fuel additives of multivalent activity, particularly antioxidants, a series of recently synthesized ethyl-6-amino-5-cyan-methyl-4-aryl-4H-pyran-3-carboxylates have been investigated using model oxidative reactions. The compounds studied appear to be prospective inhibitors of hydrocarbons oxidation. Some of them are antioxidants of combined action, breaking the chains of the oxidative reactions with cumene peroxide radicals and catalytically decomposing cumene hydroperoxide.

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1970 provide the basis for a dramatic change in Federal air quality programs. The Act establishes new standards for motor vehicles and requires EPA to establish national ambient air quality standards, standards of performance for new stationary sources of pollution, and standards for stationary sources emitting hazardous substances. Further, it establishes procedures which allow states to set emission standards for existing sources in order to achieve national ambient air quality standards. The Act also permits the Administrator of EPA to register fuels and fuel additives and to regulate the use of motor vehicle fuels or fuel additives which pose a hazard to public health or welfare.National air quality standards for particulate matter have been established. Asbestos, mercury, and beryllium have been designated as hazardous air pollutants for which Federal emission standards have been proposed.

SummaryRats were subjected to the following procedures: No treatment, Stressor (10% NaCl i.p.), Warfarin for 7 days, Stressor followed by Warfarin; and groups were sacrificed at intervals for assessment of spontaneous hemorrhage and of adrenal ascorbic acid concentration. There was no hemorrhage in the no treatment and stressor groups; some hemorrhage in the warfarin group; profound hemorrhage with Warfarin + Stressor. The adrenal ascorbic acid concentration was found to be lower, 8 h and again 5 days after stress, and remained lower in the warfarin + stress animals. Warfarin had no effect on adrenal ascorbic acid level.In another series of experiments in which the stress consisted of an electric current to the cage floor for 6 sec over 15 min, rats were sacrificed daily for determination of serum corticosterone concentration and occurrence of spontaneous hemorrhage. There was a statistically significant increase of serum corticosterone concentration with stress, warfarin and combined warfarin and stress treatments (P< 0.001 for all three variables). There was a significant correlation (r = 0.96 and 0.89, P< 0.01) for serum corticosterone concentration with hemorrhage score and incidence of hemorrhage in stressed rats receiving warfarin, but not in those receiving only warfarin. The results indicate an activation, rather than an exhaustion, of the pituitary-adrenal axis during the combined action of anticoagulant and stress, which results in the development of spontaneous hemorrhage.

The methods of energy efficiency increasing of pre- and post-harvest thermal processing of grain are considered. The effective ways to deliver energy to the grain using heat pipes and microwave field are given. The effect of combined action of microwave and low-frequency radiation on the grain germination is shown. Currently, the intensification of technological processes under the influence of microwave radiation is used in many industrial processes. Microwave equipment is becoming a necessary technological component of large profitable industries. The process of drying is no exception. In recent years, new versions of dryers have been proposed that use combined methods of energy supply, including microwave energy. Microwave dryers for foodstuffs, grains and oilseeds, including those for seed stock, have been created and are beginning to be used, along with drying and disinfection, disinfection of drying products from harmful bacteria, fungi, and mildew. For the implementation of microwave drying of particular importance is the choice of regime parameters of drying, given the fact that the grain is a biologically active object. Microwave drying allows you to provide a powerful flow of energy to the object of drying and to obtain a significant intensification of moisture evaporation. But at the same time there is also an intense heating of the product, which can degrade its quality. The possibility of supplying energy throughout the cross section of the product allows for the evaporation of moisture from the inner layers of the product, which is especially important at the end of drying, when the zone of evaporation of moisture is significantly deeper. Therefore, the highest drying efficiency can be obtained in combined processes that take advantage of various drying methods, such as convective, as well as the use of microwave and low-frequency magnetic fields. The paper presents effective ways to supply energy to the grain using heat pipes and a microwave field. The effect of the combined action of microwave and low-frequency radiation on grain similarity is shown. Ways to improve the energy efficiency of the processes of preseeding and post-harvest heat treatment of grain are considered.

: Iodine(III)-based reagents has been broadly used in oxidative reactions for the structural functionalization with several functional groups. Among the more relevant and useful synthetic transformations using these hypervalent γ 3 -reagents, it can be found the fluorination, chlorination, bromination as well as the iodination protocols. Herein, we present some of the most representatives oxidative halogenation procedures of arenes, olefins and alkynes dating from the oldest to the more recent advances in the area, highlighting the discovery and application of new iodine(III)-based halogenating species.
