The synthesis of RbHCN2 was carried out by reaction of cyanamide with rubidium amide in liquid ammonia. The crystal structure has been determinedo by x-ray powder methods (orthorhombic, P21,21,21, a = 7.299(1), b = 9.435(1), c = 9.420(1) Å; Z = 8). The anion is slightly bent (174°) and exhibits two different bond lengths (C-N: 1.17, HN-C: 1.31 Å).

Antibody against PR toxin was produced after immunizing rabbits with an immunogen prepared by conjugation of PR toxin to bovine serum albumin by a reductive alkylation method. A competitive radioimmunoassay (RIA) was used to determine the antibody specificity. The concentration causing 50% inhibition of binding of 3H-tetrahydro-PR toxin to the antibody by unlabeled PR toxin, tetrahydro-PR toxin, PR imine, eremofortin C (EC), acetyl-EC (Ac-EC), eremofortin D (ED) and eremofortin A (EA) were 7, 10, 5, 15, 50, 500 and 800 ng/assay, respectively; for PR alcohol and eremofortin B (EB), the concentration was greater than 10,000 ng/assay. The practical application of using this antibody for RIA of PR toxin was tested by spiking cheese with the toxin. PR toxin was then extracted with ethyl acetate, and analyzed by RIA. The overall recovery for 20 samples with 0.1 to 50 ppm of PR toxin was 93%.

The synthesis and characterization of two novel tetrasubstituted zinc phthalocyanines bearing bulky alkylaryloxy substituents in the so-called peripheral (1) and non-peripheral (2) positions is reported. Due to the presence of these bulky substituents, the non-peripheral substituted ZnPc 2 can be isolated as a pure regioisomer just by column chromatography. This is the first case where an α,α,α,α-tetrasubstituted regioisomer is isolated by column chromatography. Moreover, we describe the supramolecular complexation of both Pcs with the new pyridine-substituted trinitrofluorenone derivative TNFPy (3), whose synthesis and characterization is also commented. 1 H NMR titration experiments show that the system 2/3 presents a binding constant 35 times higher than system 1/3, which suggests a better accessibility to the metallic center.

The compounds (NH4)3AsS4· 5 NH3 (1) and (NH4)3SbS4· 8 NH3 (2) were prepared by the reaction of Na3AsS4 and Na3SbS4 with a proton-charged ion exchange material in liquid ammonia and characterized by low temperature single crystal X-ray structure analysis. The ammonium-ammoniates show H3N-H···N-hydrogen bonds between the ammonium ion and ammonia molecules ranging from 1.86 to 2.55 Å (DHA-angles: 145 - 173°) and H3N-H···S-bonds to the thioanions between 2.36 and 2.97 Å (DHA-angles: 130 - 176°). The former of the interactions are responsible for the formation of [(NH3)2H]+, [(NH3)3H]+ and [(NH3)4H]+-complexes, the last two of which were characterized by X-ray analysis for the first time.
