The selection of dam site is the key content in the early stage of hydropower station project. Based on the hydrology, topographic and geological conditions, kinetic energy economic indexes, flood loss of reservoir, project layout, electromechanical and metal structure, construction conditions and project investment of the proposed dam site, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the dam site selection in the pre-feasibility stage of Shitouzhai Hydropower Station, in order to provide beneficial inspiration for the design of similar projects.

Subsurface dams and aqueducts have been used for many years as important sources of water in different parts of the world. Nowadays, little attention is paid to aqueducts. On the other hand, there is a great tendency for constructing and using subsurface dams in many arid and semiarid parts of the world such as Iran. A combination of these two structures was established in ancient Iran including Qanat Vazvan in Isfahan. Nowadays, new methods and techniques such as the Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing have been developed to process site selection of subsurface dams with high accuracy and in a short time. Study and research of the Qanat Vazvan structure emphasizes the idea that these two structures have been combined in a new way. Considering some main criteria and sub-criteria for subsurface dam site selection, with the existence of aqueduct, some suitable locations with a combination of aqueduct and subsurface dam in Pishkoh basin, Taft, Yazd province have been delineated. Some of the advantages of underground dams are their local use, being close to the demand sites and their capacity for gathering water in each season. These positive points when combined with reclamation of aqueducts (qanats) cause a renewable situation for qanats and their efficiency as a water resource management process. Underground dams can be built in a qanat's shaft by constructing some hatches inside the dam's wall. Hence, water can be stored during cold rainy seasons. The main and basic weaknesses of qanats can be covered through this combination. Hence, it causes a strong and optimum usage of qanat water.

Particularly important is the use of drilling fluid in carrying out drilling works to great depths and especially in difficult geological conditions. Proper function of the drilling fluid is governed by the selection of their physico-chemical properties. Drilling works of hydrogeological survey require circulation of borehole with such rinses, which at a minimum pollute water-bearing horizons and their chemical composition meets hygiene requirements.

Abstract Nowadays many problems concerning industrial floors or floors in shopping centres occurred when local geological characterization is not adequately considered by structural designers, material selection is not evaluated properly and in time for future stability, or consolidation of soft organic subsoil laid in active zone is not taken into account during design evaluation. Similar problems occur when flooding effects on subbase layers cause a new settlement of the upper floor structure. Generally speaking, majority of these symptoms of floor damage have their origin in underestimation of the geotechnical risk. At some locations, the selection of support structure and material type is not adequate due to lack of experience and in order to offer the lowest price as a contractor.

The construction geological condition is complex in the transition section from the inclined shaft to the main hole. There are two kinds of construction schemes. After the comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the two different construction schemes, it has selected the construction scheme of the rectangular pilot tunnel vertical to the main hole. This paper solve the construction problem of the transition section from the inclined shaft to the main hole of large cross section tunnel of passenger dedicated line under complicated geological conditions. According to the previous research results, the method can be used to large-cross section tunnel. The scaffold design and auxiliary construction measures is detailed. Compared with the expected duration, it completed the transition construction ahead of time with the speed superior to the ones of other similar works, and forming a safe and efficient construction situation.

The mechanism of cutting process of roadheader with cutting head was researched, and the influences of properties of coal and rock on cutting load were deeply analyzed. Aimed at the defects of traditional calculation method of cutting load on fully expressing the complex cutting process of cutting head, the method of finite element simulation was proposed to simulate the dynamic cutting process. Aimed at the characteristics of coal and rock which affect the cutting load, several simulations with different firmness coefficient were taken repeatedly, and the relationship between three-axis force and firmness coefficient was derived. A comparative analysis of cutting pick load between simulation results and theoretical formula was carried out, and a consistency was achieved. Then cutting process with a total cutting head was carried out on this basis. The results show that the simulation analysis not only provides a reliable guarantee for the accurate calculation of the cutting head load and improves the efficiency of the cutting head cutting test but also offers a basis for selection of cutting head with different geological conditions of coal or rock.
