The present study aims to apply simulation software MIKE Basin for the operation of reservoirs of Mahanadi Reservoir Project (MRP) Complex. MRP complex is a multipurpose multi reservoir system. Simulation is a technique by which we emulate the behavior of a system. Simulation is a very powerful technique in analyzing most complex water resource system in detail for performance evaluation. Reservoir operation study has been done for data of 34 years. The results extracted from the study indicated that the performance of simulation model MIKE Basin is satisfactory.

The construction of hydraulic projects inevitably involves land requisition and resettlement, with considerable impact on the society, the environment, and the economy of the project site, and leading to social stability risk events. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically assess social stability risk to put forward corresponding countermeasures. By applying WSR theory (Wuli-Shili-Renli Theory) to the investigation of the case-study of the Jiangxiang Reservoir Project, this paper constructs an evaluation index system for the risk to social stability from land requisition and resettlement, from the three dimensions of “physics”, “matter”, and “human principle”. The GAHP (Group-decision Analytic Hierarchy Process) method is used to determine the index weights, while the index values of each risk factor are determined by using the interval valued hesitant fuzzy sets (IVHFSs) method. A comprehensive assessment of risks to social stability from land requisition and resettlement in the Jiangxiang Reservoir Project is performed, and coping strategies for major social stability risk factors are proposed. This paper effectively supports the development of assessments of risks to social stability from land requisition and resettlement in other hydraulic projects.

The selection of dam site is the key content in the early stage of hydropower station project. Based on the hydrology, topographic and geological conditions, kinetic energy economic indexes, flood loss of reservoir, project layout, electromechanical and metal structure, construction conditions and project investment of the proposed dam site, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the dam site selection in the pre-feasibility stage of Shitouzhai Hydropower Station, in order to provide beneficial inspiration for the design of similar projects.

Engineering ethics is a system of ethical principles applied to engineering, which plays the role of value guidance and criterion evaluation in engineering construction activities. Based on engineering ethics, writers review the Sanmenxia Reservoir Project, and use system dynamics to systematically study the evolutionary game of engineering community members, including government, enterprise, and people, involved in the engineering activities. The results show that the engineering community is a heterogeneous community with complex game behaviors, and the correct ethical choice is the key factor that promotes the evolution of the community members to cooperative dynamic equilibrium. Good management of ethical commitment, emphasis on professionalism and public services, strengthening risk alert and avoidance are effective ways for members of the engineering community to form a cooperative game, avoid tragedy of public resources, and ultimately ensure the orderly development of projects.

The “Yangtze River to Huaihe River” project is another large-scale trans-basin water diversion project in China, following the South-to-North Water Division Project. The reservoir project is in the period of China’s rapid development of modernization, informatization and marketization. During this period, reservoir-induced migrants have great differences in resource endowment and development opportunities, so they show different characteristics in the integration process. In order to clarify these characteristics and formulate corresponding policies based on these characteristics to help them integrate into the society of the resettlement area as soon as possible, this paper has completed two aspects of work: First, a method for identifying social integration is proposed. Second, the characteristics of social integration of different migrant groups in different time dimensions are analyzed. This study has two important findings: First, the extent of information sources and understanding of policies has a greater impact on the social integration of migrants. The wider the source of information and the more understanding of policies, the more it helps migrants to integrate into society. Second, the social network relationship established by the female migrant group in the maintenance activities will greatly promote their social integration.

Though resettlement and rehabilitation is considered to offer a development opportunity for project-displaced people, such people are often not cared for and continue to be disregarded by the powerful governments in India in their ‘development’ projects. Oustees in India continue to be one of the most deprived sections of society, and resettlement and rehabilitation is still a critical issue of concern to them. Their basic rights to a decent life are violated in the resettlement and rehabilitation process, although the Indian Constitution guarantees certain rights to its citizens. Such deprivation and violations of rights in resettlement and rehabilitation can be seen particularly in the case of the Gundlakamma Reservoir Project in the State of (undivided and residual) Andhra Pradesh.
