Carex setosa Boott is a highly variable Sino-Himalayan species. In the protologue, the species was described by Francis Boott with three distinct morphotypes. Morphotypes were further illustrated in three different tabs. J.D. Hooker collected all the morphotypes in Lachen, Sikkim in 1849. The Indian morphotypes are Carex setosa var. setosa. The name Carex setosa is lectotypified here.

Health is a complete state of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being. Every human being will reach the ultimate success of their life when they are full of Intellect. So, Ayurveda has been playing a great role in providing health to personal and the public from the very inception of human civilization. From the ancient era, many herbs were mentioned in Ayurveda which help in the promotion of the intellect of human beings. Acharya Charaka has mentioned in Charaka Chikitsa Rasayana Chapter some Medhya Rasayana herbs which help to in- crease our Medha (intellect), Improve Grahana Sakti (power of perception), Smriti (power of recalling), Agni (power of digestion and metabolism), Varna (complexion) and Svara (voice). Medhya Rasayana drugs improve mental faculties and mental function with the help of their properties. The present article reviewed different Ayur- vedic Classics of Samhita Period, Sangraha Period, Nighantu Period, Late Modern Period and of Contemporary Period to collect the information’s regarding the pharmacodynamics of drugs and their therapeutic uses to furnish here within a methodical manner for better understanding of their therapeutic efficacy of this drug by the scholars of this field. Through the review of the literature regarding Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Sankhapuspi (Convolvulus pluricaulischois), Jatamanshi (Nardostachys jatamansi) it has been observed that these drugs are potent Medhya(intellect) with the properties as mentioned in this article. Abstract Bombus simillimus SMITH is a west Himalayan species, known only from Pakistan and India. In the Indian Himalaya this species is restricted to Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. So far, it has never been recorded from other regions. Its females (workers) can be recognized by the chocolate brown pubescence of the metasomal terga 1 and 2. The colour pattern of the queen is very distinct, with the whole body coloured black except for the last two metasomal terga, which are brick-red. In Kashmir Himalaya it is widespread around the lower mountain coniferous forest and was found foraging heavily on Trifolium pratense, Lavatera cashmeriana, Carduus spp. and Cirsium spp. Being very common and having a very wide distributional range, it is associated with a sizeable number of host plants. Due emphasis has been laid on its detailed taxonomic descriptions, synonymy, host plants, distribution pattern and illustration. Thirty-five food plants of this species have been recorded from the study areas.

Abstract The study is the first report on de novo transcriptome analysis of Nardostachys jatamansi, a critically endangered medicinal plant of alpine Himalayas. Illumina GAIIx sequencing of plants collected during end of vegetative growth (August) yielded 48,411 unigenes. 74.45% of these were annotated using UNIPROT. GO enrichment analysis, KEGG pathways and PPI network indicated simultaneous utilization of leaf photosynthates for flowering, rhizome fortification, stress response and tissue-specific secondary metabolites biosynthesis. Among the secondary metabolite biosynthesis genes, terpenoids were predominant. UPLC-PDA analysis of in vitro plants revealed temperature-dependent, tissue-specific differential distribution of various phenolics. Thus, as compared to 25 °C, the phenolic contents of both leaves (gallic acid and rutin) and roots (p-coumaric acid and cinnamic acid) were higher at 15 °C. These phenolics accounted for the therapeutic properties reported in the plant. In qRT-PCR of in vitro plants, secondary metabolite biosynthesis pathway genes showed higher expression at 15 °C and 14 h/10 h photoperiod (conditions representing end of vegetative growth period). This provided cues for in vitro modulation of identified secondary metabolites. Such modulation of secondary metabolites in in vitro systems can eliminate the need for uprooting N. jatamansi from wild. Hence, the study is a step towards effective conservation of the plant.
