The most frequent of malignant tumor cites of the oral mucosa are tongue - 55 %, mucosa of the cheek - 12 %, the fundus of the oral cavity - 10 %, the alveolar process of the upper jaw and the hard palate - 9 %, the alveolar process of the lower jaw - 6 %, the soft palate - 2 %. Malignant tumor cells carry PD-L1 ligands on their surface and its expression level is often correlated with an unfavorable prognosis in particular for such tumors as melanoma, kidney cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. It is relevant to evaluate the correlation between overexpression of PD-L1 and overall survival in patients with malignant tumors of the oral mucosa.

AbstractThe conventional crestal implants are used only when there is adequate jawbone height and width. Results of conventional implants are good in patients with healthy bone at the time of treatment, but prognosis gets deteriorated when surgical augmentation of bone is included with implant placement. These augmentation procedures have surgical risks and are costlier to the patients. Patients with atrophied jawbones are given no treatment, until crestal implants are seen as the last option. In this article, the indications for basal implants and functional differences between basal implants and crestal implants have been discussed.Patients with extreme jawbone atrophy do not benefit from crestal implants. The basal bone is the (cortical) osseous tissue of the mandible and maxilla, and lies below the alveolar process, which has a relatively strong and no resorbing framework.Basal osseointegrated and basal cortical screw (BCS) are two types of implants designed to take anchorage from the cortical bone of the jaw. BCS implants have long shafts and can be placed immediately in the socket after extraction and provided with immediate loading within 72 hours of implant placement. Basal implants are also called bicortical or cortical implants as they utilize the cortical portion of the jawbones for anchorage and implant stability. The basal bone has better quality and quantity of cortical bone for retention of these unique and highly advanced implants. The other names for these implants are lateral implants or disk implants.

The prevalence of dentoalveolar injuries in children is approximately 25%, with falls from own height being one of the main etiologies. Diagnosis is based on the clinical evaluation associated with complementary imaging tests. The treatment of choice depends on the type of damage and structure affected. For alveolar process fractures, closed reduction and semi-rigid dental splinting for 4 to 6 weeks is generally satisfactory. However, some cases, such as severe segmental fractures, require open treatment to ensure adequate reduction and stabilization of the displaced alveolar segment, which is usually achieved by titanium miniplates and screws. Nevertheless, there are situations where this type of fixation is not possible, requiring alternative methods. Therefore, this article describes a surgical technique performed by open reduction, associating semi-rigid dental splint and circummandibular wiring in pediatric patient diagnosed with dentoalveolar fracture through clinical examination (with bone fracture displacement) and tomography. The technique promoted a good prognostic to the patient, proving to be a viable alternative for treating dentoalveolar fractures.

In technical textile engineering, macro-level phenomenological modelling effectively describes the material’s highly nonlinear behaviour. However, existing material laws concentrate on the normal stiffness in the orthotropic yarns and simplify the shear effect because of the two orders of magnitude difference between shear and normal stiffness. This article introduces an improved phenomenological model that includes nonlinear shear behaviour, and it determines the material parameters with a previously applied data fitting method for exponential functions. The nonlinear shear behaviour is valid for the elastic state, that is, at the service level of the loads. Time-dependent, cyclic loading or plastic behaviour is not considered.
