Italy is located in a very active seismic zone, and many earthquakes have marked the country, some of them in the recent past. In order to take adequate measures of seismic prevention and protection, in the last decades, the Italian Civil Protection Department (DPC) initiated a survey and introduced a specific form for the quick and/or post-seismic assessment of buildings. This is useful to obtain statistics on the types of structures and their vulnerability and a judgement on the damage, leading to a decision about the possibility of reuse and/or the level of retrofitting to be applied. Those activities have been developed since the beginning of 2000. This task is currently carried out by the Italian DPC-ReLUIS project research, line WP2 on the inventory of building structures, setting up the CARTIS form for any structural type, like masonry, reinforced concrete, precast concrete, steel, and timber structures, the latter being mainly related to large span buildings, extensively used in Italy. In this context, the paper presents the first draft of the CARTIS form for large span timber structures that provides a general description for typical structural schemes, through the singular points commonly considered as seismic structural vulnerabilities. Moreover, the statistics on timber large span structures based on a sample of 10 buildings is presented.

Gedung Kuliah Bersama was modified into ten floors, constructed using precast pretension slabs, namely hollow core slabs on the second to five floors and cast in situ slabs, namely steel deck on floors six to ten. Gedung Kuliah Bersama is located at the UPN “Veteran” East Java in the city of Surabaya. Geologically and tectonically, Surabaya City is in an active fault zone, so that the tectonic activity that occurs can cause damage to building structures and construction materials. Pushover analysis is an analysis that can be used to determine the pattern of structural collapse when an earthquake occurs. Based on the results of the analysis, precast pretension slabs (hollow core slabs) with segments of 1500 mm × 7000 mm × 150 mm with PC Wire reinforcement ϕ7-121 mm and cast in situ (steel deck) slabs with a thickness of 120 mm with wiremesh reinforcement M8-150 mm. The difference in the bending strength of the two types of slabs is 38.73%. The results of the pushover analysis show that the structural performance at the Damage Control (DO) level shows that the building is able to withstand the earthquake that occurs and the risk of casualties is very small.

Abstract Precast concrete is an answer to the demands of building structures that save time, but cannot be used widely because of the reliability of the connection, especially during an earthquake, the desired earthquake-resistant building structure must have sufficient strength and rigidity. Stiffness is one of the factors that determine the response of a structure to earthquake loads. When connected with earthquake loads, a structure must have sufficient rigidity so that its movement during an earthquake can be limited. This study aims to determine and analyze the stiffness in the double columns straight joint beam notches due to lateral cyclic load. By dividing 3 (three) types of test specimens, namely Monolithic column Beam, Type 1 Column Joint (SBK), and Type 2 Column Beam Joint (SBK). The connection used is a double straight notch and using the grouting method. Testing and analysis using the Displacement Control Method with the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) 1986 standards. The results showed the monolith column Column (BK) specimens have a greater stiffness value compared to SBK 1 specimens and SBK 2 specimens.

Abstract. This paper presents the measurement results of three building wall materials which are commonly used for residential housings in Indonesia, namely clay brick, batako (concrete brick), and precast concrete. In-situ measurement of the steady state thermal flow (heat flux) at building walls (envelopes) is conducted in order to determine the thermal resistance of building wall according to ASTM C1155. The results show that all three building materials having a thermal resistance values are far below the energy conservation provisions of ASHRAE 90.1 and especially when compared to the provision of high performance green building ASHRAE 189.1 It is found that precast concrete has higher thermal resistance (or has lower thermal conductivity) than that of other two materials, hence a better compliance to the ASHRAE standards.

Increasing concerns about negative environmental impacts of building structures call for higher demands on the design of environmental friendly buildings. This article is aimed at assessing the overall environmental impact of buildings throughout its life cycle as well as on environmental impact of all building materials and building services for single-family homes. This analysis examines the role of utilized green environmental technologies for the following selected impact categories: GWP - global warming potential, EP - eutrophication potential, AP - acidification potential POCP and photochemical ozone formation potential expressed in kg CO2eq, PO43-eq, SO2eq and ethylene within the “Cradle to gate with options” boundary. The LCA assessment methodology and eToolLCD software have been used to model the effects of houses’ life cycle.

This paper describes an ongoing research program on the seismic resistance performance of the double-wall precast concrete (DWPC) shear wall. Low-cyclic reversed loading test of three new full scale specimens are carried out based on the previous studies. The test results indicate that DWPC shear walls have higher initial stiffness, cracking load, yielding load and ultimate load. The displacement ductility ratios of DWPC shear walls are no less than that of cast-in-situ shear wall. The hysteretic curves of all specimens are plump, and the trend of skeleton curves is basically the same. The seismic energy dissipation capacities of DWPC specimens are close to those of cast-in-situ specimen. All the specimens have shown favorable seismic resistance performance.
