Efficient removal of emerging contaminant sulfamethoxazole in water by ozone coupled with calcium peroxide: mechanism and toxicity assessment

The calcium peroxide microparticles were synthesized and evaluated as an innovative oxidant to remove Fe (III) and Cr (III) from waste liquid of COD determining samples. The CaO2 microparticles were 0.1-0.3 μm in diameter and the average CaO2 content was 80%. Experiments were performed to investigate the influence of contact time, pH of solution and CaO2 microparticles dosage on the efficiency of Fe (III) and Cr (III) removal. Up to 100.0% and 99.8% removal efficiency for Fe (III) and Cr (III) respectively was obtained by microparticles dosage of 10000 mg/L at 30 min and pH 7.46. It could be concluded that the removal efficiency was enhanced by increasing CaO2 microparticles dosage and reaction time, but decreased by increasing pH. These results suggest that CaO2 microparticles may be used to develop a simple and efficient removal method for waste liquid of COD determining samples.

Investigation to evaluate the toxicity of carbofuran pesticides on haematological parameters of third instar larvae of Oryctes rhinoceros L. Indicated alterations in total haemocyte count and differential haemocyte count for toxicity assessment. Various doses of carbofuran (0.05g, 0.010g and 0.015 g) applied on insect through oral route and its impact after 24 hours of its application revealed that various doses of carbofuran exert specific alterations in both total and differential haemocytes of insect haemolymph.

Currently, the treatment of the bottomhole formation zone with acidic compositions is one of the most common methods to intensify the oil inflow. The use of various modified acid compositions increases the efficiency of acid treatments on the bottomhole formation zone. Acid compositions, including those containing hydrocarbon solvents, which contribute to more efficient removal of organic colmatants, affect the reaction rate of the reagent with the rock and processing equipment, change the reservoir properties, etc.The article presents the results of experimental studies, which are aimed at establishing the effect of the composition of hydrocarbon-containing acidic emulsions consisting of an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, toluene and Neonol AF 9-10 on their dispersed and rheological properties, as well as their efficiency in removing paraffin deposits.
