The Third

Thermal buckling analysis of rectangular functionally graded plates with initial geometric imperfections is presented in this paper. It is assumed that the non-homogeneous mechanical properties vary linearly through the thickness of the plate. The plate is assumed to be under various types of thermal loadings, such as the uniform temperature rise and nonlinear temperature gradient through the thickness. A double-sine function for the geometric imperfection along the x and y-directions is considered. The equilibrium equations are derived using the third order shear deformation plate theory. Using a suitable method, equilibrium equations are reduced from 5 to 2 equations. The corresponding stability equations are established. Using these equations accompanied by the compatibility equation yield to the buckling loads in a closed form solution for each loading case. The results are compared with the known data in the literature.

Herein, two diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based, small-molecule isomers, o- and p-DPP-PhCN, were introduced as acceptors in ternary organic solar cells (OSCs). The isomers have the same molecular backbone but differ in the positions of the cyanide (CN) substituents (ortho and para), which greatly affects their packing behavior. Ternary solar cells composed of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):DPP-PhCN:phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were fabricated, and the effects of the different packing behaviors of the third component on the device performance and the working mechanism of the ternary cells were investigated. The addition of o-DPP-PhCN with a relatively high-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy level resulted in an increase in the open-circuit voltage (VOC) in the ternary devices, demonstrating the alloy-like structure of the two acceptors (o-DPP-PhCN and PCBM) in the ternary system. However, the p-DPP-PhCN-based ternary cells exhibited VOC values similar to that of a P3HT:PCBM binary cell, irrespective of the addition of p-DPP-PhCN, indicating a cascade energy-level structure in the ternary system and an effective charge transfer from the P3HT to the PCBM. Importantly, by increasing the addition of p-DPP-PhCN, the short-circuit current density increased substantially, resulting in pronounced shoulder peaks in the external quantum efficiency responses in the long-wavelength region, corresponding to the contribution of the photocurrent generated by the light absorption of p-DPP-PhCN. Despite sharing the same molecular backbone, the two DPP-PhCNs exhibited substantially different packing behaviors according to the position of their CN substituents, which also greatly affected the working mechanism of the ternary devices fabricated using the DPP-PhCNs as the third component.

An analytical investigation was carried out to assess the free vibration, buckling and deformation responses of simply-supported sandwich plates. The plates constructed with graphene-reinforced polymer composite (GRPC) face sheets and are subjected to mechanical and thermal loadings while being simply-supported or resting on different types of elastic foundation. The temperature-dependent material properties of the face sheets are estimated by employing the modified Halpin-Tsai micromechanical model. The governing differential equations of the system are established based on the refined shear deformation plate theory and solved analytically using the Navier method. The validation of the formulation is carried out through comparisons of the calculated natural frequencies, thermal buckling capacities and maximum deflections of the sandwich plates with those evaluated by the available solutions in the literature. Numerical case studies are considered to examine the influences of the core to face sheet thickness ratio, temperature variation, Winkler- and Pasternak-types foundation, as well as the volume fraction of graphene on the response of the plates. It will be explicitly demonstrated that the vibration, stability and deflection responses of the sandwich plates become significantly affected by the aforementioned parameters.

Recently, by elaborately designing nonfullerene acceptors and selecting suitable polymer donors great progresses have been made towards binary organic solar cells (OSCs) with power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) over 15%. Ternary organic photovoltaics by introducing a third component into the host binary system is recognized to be highly effective to elevate the performance through extending the light absorption, manipulating the recombination behavior of the carriers, and improving the morphology of the active layer. In this work, we synthesized a new electron-acceptor ZITI-4F matching it with the wide-bandgap polymer donor PBDB-T The PBDB-T:ZITI-4F-based OSC showed a high PCE of 12.33%. After introducing 40% of PC71BM as the third component, the ternary device achieved an improved PCE of 13.40% with simultaneously improved photovoltaic parameters. The higher performance of the ternary device can be attributed to the improved and more balanced charge mobility, reduced bimolecular recombination, and more favorable morphology. These results indicate that the cooperation of a fullerene-based acceptor and a nonfullerene acceptor to fabricate ternary OSCs is an effective approach to optimizing morphology and therefore to increase the performance of OSCs.
