Numerical data are presented concerning the mean and the standard deviation of the waiting-time distribution for multiserver systems with queues in parallel, in which customers choose one of the shortest queues upon arrival. Moreover, a new numerical method is outlined for calculating state probabilities and moments of queue-length distributions. This method is based on power series expansions and recursion. It is applicable to many systems with more than one waiting line.

Abstract - Background: Enlarged financial and managerial resources spending on medical improvement had rarely to decrease the crowed waiting line or increase the patient satisfaction. Investigating patients’ perceived value (PPV) gain an insight of patients’ satisfaction. PPV is a valuable perspective for hospitals to strategically improve medical care quality and performance from functional and emotional sides. - Methods: According to the theory of perceived value, an empirical study had been carried out by field survey and data collection in 7 well-known hospitals in Zhejiang Province China. 2586 questionnaires with valid data were analyzed according to PPV.- Results: Beside of the importance of functional values (effectiveness of treatment effect, reasonable and accurate prices, standardization and normalization, convenience and accessibility), the emotional values (communication with doctors/nurses, comfortable environment and facilitates) were highlighted. The preferences of patients’ perceived value were influenced by patients’ background features, and then the differentiation of patients’ satisfaction was proceeded. These patients, who are young, female, outpatient, light ill condition, high educational level and high income, tend to be relatively high demanding on medical care services but in high dissatisfaction level. Additionally, the findings show an advantage to pass the reasonability of waiting time to patients’ thought.- Conclusion: Classified convenience receiving approaches according to differentiated PPV and background features of patients, equipped up with e-enabled health care environment, can bring worthwhile patients’ satisfaction in Chinese hospitals .

Undocumented migration is a (inferior) substitute to documented migration. Hence, policies affecting documented migration also affect undocumented migration. This paper explores this relationship from a theoretical perspective. The implications of this exploration are that lax enforcement of visa rules and national borders, combined with a very long waiting line (small annual quotas) for immigrant visas, can make illegal immigration a preferred option over legal immigration or, more generally, that for policy purposes all types of migrations should be regarded as interdependent. Therefore, policies aimed solely at, say, undocumented immigration will generally be less effective than an integrated policy approach.

Underground high-speed railway station is becoming more and more popular in recent years, due to its advantage in relieving the tense situation of urban construction land. HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system of underground railway station consumes large energy, therefore it is necessary to find a way to decrease the energy consumption in stations. Reasonable ventilation and air organization are the basis of energy-saving design of environment control system in stations. The energy consumption could be reduced greatly by utilizing the piston wind properly. In the present work, airflow characteristics in the station are investigated when high-speed train is passing through the underground railway station with CCM+ software. Results show that piston wind has different effects on airflow in the platform when the high-speed train is running. However, the air velocity in the platform is always lower than 5 m/s. In order to analyse the effect of piston wind on the airflow in the platform in more detail, the velocities and temperatures at waiting line are extracted. The air velocity near two ends of platform is larger and the similar results could also be observed for temperatures.
