Laboratory-scale carbon anodes were produced by a new method of high-temperature mould pressing, and their physico-chemical properties were studied in laboratory. The results showed that the bulk density of carbon anodes produced by high-temperature mould pressing are 1.61-1.63g/cm3, they are higher than industrial carbon anode by 0.06 g/cm3, but the specific electrical resistance is higher and crushing strength is lower.

The purpose of this paper is to study the thermal shock resistance and failure mechanism of La2Ce2O7/8YSZ double-ceramic-layer thermal barrier coatings (LC/8YSZ DCL TBCs) under extreme temperature gradients. At high surface temperatures, thermal shock and infrared temperature measuring modules were used to determine the thermal cycling life and insulation temperature of LC/8YSZ DCL TBCs under extreme temperature gradients by an oxygen–acetylene gas flame testing machine. A viscoelastic model was used to obtain the stress and strain law of solid phase sintering of a coating system using the finite element method. Results and Conclusion: (1) Thermal cycling life was affected by the surface temperature of LC/8YSZ DCL TBCs and decreased sharply with the increase of surface temperature. (2) The LC ceramic surface of the failure coating was sintered, and the higher the temperature, the faster the sintering process. (3) Accelerated life test results showed that high temperature thermal cycling life is not only related to thermal fatigue of ceramic layer, but is also related to the sintering degree of the coating. (4) Although the high temperature thermal stress had great influence on the coating, great sintering stress was produced with sintering of the LC ceramic layer, which is the main cause of LC/8YSZ DCL TBC failure. The above results indicate that for new TBC ceramic materials, especially those for engines above class F, their sinterability should be fully considered. Sintering affects the thermal shock properties at high temperature. Our research results can provide reference for material selection and high temperature performance research.

Abstract. Land surface temperature (LST) is a key variable for high temperature and drought monitoring and climate and ecological environment research. Due to the sparse distribution of ground observation stations, thermal infrared remote sensing technology has become an important means of quickly obtaining ground temperature over large areas. However, there are many missing and low-quality values in satellite-based LST data because clouds cover more than 60 % of the global surface every day. This article presents a unique LST dataset with a monthly temporal resolution for China from 2003 to 2017 that makes full use of the advantages of MODIS data and meteorological station data to overcome the defects of cloud influence via a reconstruction model. We specifically describe the reconstruction model, which uses a combination of MODIS daily data, monthly data and meteorological station data to reconstruct the LST in areas with cloud coverage and for grid cells with elevated LST error, and the data performance is then further improved by establishing a regression analysis model. The validation indicates that the new LST dataset is highly consistent with in situ observations. For the six natural subregions with different climatic conditions in China, verification using ground observation data shows that the root mean square error (RMSE) ranges from 1.24 to 1.58 ∘C, the mean absolute error (MAE) varies from 1.23 to 1.37 ∘C and the Pearson coefficient (R2) ranges from 0.93 to 0.99. The new dataset adequately captures the spatiotemporal variations in LST at annual, seasonal and monthly scales. From 2003 to 2017, the overall annual mean LST in China showed a weak increase. Moreover, the positive trend was remarkably unevenly distributed across China. The most significant warming occurred in the central and western areas of the Inner Mongolia Plateau in the Northwest Region, and the average annual temperature change is greater than 0.1 K (R>0.71, P<0.05), and a strong negative trend was observed in some parts of the Northeast Region and South China Region. Seasonally, there was significant warming in western China in winter, which was most pronounced in December. The reconstructed dataset exhibits significant improvements and can be used for the spatiotemporal evaluation of LST in high-temperature and drought-monitoring studies. The data are available through Zenodo at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3528024 (Zhao et al., 2019).

Abstract.—The animation of daily composites of sea surface temperatures (SST) from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) provides a new method for the detection of dynamics at the surface of the ocean. By rapidly viewing the daily SST composites of hourly images, it is possible for the human eye to separate the fast moving residual clouds from the slowly moving SST patterns associated with ocean currents, eddies, and upwelling. Although each individual daily composite is still partly cloud covered, the rapid display provides the appearance of continuity of the SST patterns. The GOES SST animations were used during 1998 and 1999 to monitor the time dependent deflection of the Gulf Stream due to a rise in bottom topography southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, locally known as the Charleston Bump. Examples of the sea surface temperature animations of the Gulf Stream appear at the website: http:// www. goes .noaa.gov

Development of new material is focused on modification of properties of materials with silicate binder so that these could be used for renovation of horizontal structures of high-temperature devices and at the same time contribute to reduction of heat transportation of constructions with higher surface temperature (in this case 200 and 500 °C). Main requirements for this material is low volume weight and low coefficient of thermal conductivity. This paper assesses influence of exposition to higher temperatures on microstructure.
