SummaryObjective: To quantitatively evaluate the change of the coxofemoral joints using computed tomography and distraction index in a cat with hip dysplasia treated by juvenile pubic symphysiodesis.Study Design: Case report.Animal: Eighteen-week-old female entire Maine Coon cat. Results: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis resulted in changes in the distraction index, acetabular angle, dorsal acetabular rim angle, dorsal acetabular sector angle, and clinical improvement at the six month follow-up. No intra-operative or postoperative complications were recorded. Conclusions: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis performed at 18 weeks of age resulted in improvement in hip joint conformation and hip laxity in a dysplastic cat.Clinical relevance: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis may be a promising treatment for feline hip dysplasia and is a safe and technically simple procedure to perform. Further investigations are warranted.

ABSTRACT Crown fractures of the anterior teeth are a common form of dental trauma mainly affecting children and adolescents. One of the options for managing crown fractures is the reattachment of the fractured fragment when the tooth fragment is available with minimal or no violation of the biological width. Reattachment of fractured fragments can provide good esthetics, as it maintains the tooth's original anatomic form, color, and surface texture. It also restores function and is a relatively simple procedure. This case report deals with the esthetic management of a crown-root fracture that was successfully treated with endodontic treatment followed by reattachment of fractured fragment with fiber post. In Brazil there is an average of 30,000 cases of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis reported annually, and around the world it happens for about each 20 seconds. Although there are still opportunities to contribute with studies about this disease; supporting the medical community, especially dermatologists, mainly because of the necessity of knowing that a relatively simple procedure can result such a relevant trauma. Female patients presented erythematous plaque in the limb. Lesion appeared days after laser sessions for hair removal. Biopsy showed amastigotes forms and positive culture. After unsuccessful treatment it was managed with N-methyl glucamine 20 mgSbV/kg/day, during 20 days, there was significant improvement of the clinical picture. This study aims to present a case report of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis initiated after local trauma. Literature reports describe primary or secondary lesions of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis elicited after a local trauma. The mechanism used in order to explain these events was the migration of infected macrophages induced by cytokines. Similar events have also been reported as part of the locus minoris resistentiae concept that comprises situations in which microorganisms have a tendency to settle at places of weakened resistance. Considering that Leishmaniasis lesions are usually developed in promastigote forms are inoculated by the Phlebotominae, in this case it was noted that the infection has been favored by the local trauma.

Introduction Anesthesia of the maxillary nerve using an extraoral approach requires the preparation of the operative field, the use of long non-standard needles, and the procedure is very painful. Therefore an intraoral approach could have great advantages. Aim The aim of this paper was to present the intraoral approach to maxillary nerve anesthesia using a curved needle, having in mind that such a procedure is less traumatic to the patient and easy to perform. Method In order to achieve maxillary nerve anesthesia, the intraoral route with a curved needle was used. A standard disposable 10 ccm syringe was used with an intramuscular needle 22G 40 mm long, which was curved with the protective cap at the 90 degrees angle, starting from the midpoint of the needle. After broadening the chick with a blunt hook, the needle was placed behind and above the maxillary tuber. The curved part of the needle was in the coronl plane and perpendicular to the axis passing through the nasion in the ventral-dorsal direction. After passing through the pterygomaxillary fissure and the preventive aspiration, 4 ml of the Lidocaini hydrochloridi with adrenalini 1:200000 was injected. Results In indicated cases the procedure was conducted in 65 patients. The desired analgesia was achieved in the region of n. maxillaris, but additional infiltrative anesthesia was necessary in the incisor region. Conclusion Anesthesia of the maxillary nerve performed as described in this case report is a reliable and simple procedure that does not require additional equipment. Unlike the extraoral approach, it is easier to perform, more precise and comfortable for the patient.

AbstractMany people would prefer to keep their natural teeth and advances in dentistry have lead to treatment of teeth that once would have been removed. In order to carry out this present day mandate, hemisection is the procedure of cutting a tooth that has two roots in half. This will create a front half and a back half. This procedure can be done by a periodontist, an experienced dentist, an endodontist, or an oral surgeon. This article describes a simple procedure for hemisection in mandibular molar and its subsequent restoration.

Acute urinary retention is condition which requires immediate attention as it is associated with severe pain and which is relieved by simple procedure of catheterization. This complication is uncommon in women compare to males. It is much rarer during pregnancy. Presenting a case of acute retention of urine in a primigravida woman with vulval edema having severe pre-eclampsia in third trimester. She was initially managed with indwelling Foleys catheter followed by delivery which relieved her symptoms.

AbstractObjective:To discuss the technique and outcome of this simple procedure and the management of post-traumatic parotid sialocoeles, and to review the literature regarding this condition.Case report:We report the successful surgical treatment, by peroral drainage, of three patients with post-traumatic parotid sialocoele resistant to conservative management.Discussion:We discuss the method and outcome of the surgical procedure performed, along with the causes, presentation and management of parotid sialocoele. Conclusion:Correct initial management of a parotid duct injury may prevent the formation of a sialocoele. When conservative treatment of post-traumatic parotid sialocoele fails, we advocate the surgical technique described in this report as it is effective, simple and carries minimal risk to the patient.

AbstractThe nasogastric tube (NGT) plays a very vital role in the early resuscitation of head injury patients for various reasons. Though considered a simple procedure, it can be associated with multiple dreadful complications. Our patient was a 44-year-old male, referred from a peripheral health center for further management of severe head and faciomaxillary injuries following a motor vehicular accident. On arrival at the hospital, the endotracheal tube and NGT were in situ. A computed tomography scan of the brain revealed the NGT piercing through the cribriform plate of ethmoid and coiling into the cranial cavity with pneumocephalus. The NGT was retrieved under C-arm guidance and his injuries were managed respectively. The patient was discharged after prolong hospitalization with an acceptable outcome. With this case report, we want to remind emergency health care providers to avoid this catastrophic complication of NGT insertion in a faciomaxillary trauma patient by doing it transorally. We report a novel method of safely removing NGT which has not been reported in the past.

Crown fractures mainly in the anterior region are the most common outcome of traumatic injuries. The common cause is ascribed to falls, motor vehicle accidents, and contact sports. Out of all the dental trauma injuries, dentoalveolar trauma contributes to about 25%, which may vary from simple crown fracture of enamel and/or dentin to complicated crown root fractures. In this case report, an undergraduate dental student reported with a fractured crown due to a fall an hour earlier. The clinical and radiographic assessment leads to the diagnosis of an uncomplicated crown fracture. Fracture line was extending obliquely till the middle third of the crown involving enamel and dentin. Tooth segment adaptation was evaluated, and decision was made to attempt for reattachment procedure. The tooth was isolated using rubber dam and tooth fragment was reattached using flowable composite. Follow up period was noted for 6 months. Tooth segment reattachment is a minimally invasive procedure with immediate aesthetic and it is not time consuming. This procedure has a predicable long-term prognosis with minimal complication due to advances in adhesive technique. Various factors should be taken into consideration for maximizing the benefits. Thus, this simple procedure is an alternative to the other complex restorative procedure for restoring tooth function, form, and esthetics. Recent advances in flowable composites can be used for a much more predictable result pertaining to strength and aesthetics.
