This chapter aims to provide a succinct review of the state-of-the-art academic literature on the topic of venture capital firms and their involvement in entrepreneurial ventures. Specifically, the chapter focuses on the relationship between the presence of VC firms and two key entrepreneurial outcomes: (a) strategic alliances, defined as the formation of cooperative agreements with strategic partners for the purpose of advancing the entrepreneurial firm’s competitiveness, and (b) liquidity events, defined as the sale of ownership to the general public through an initial public offering (IPO), or to a specific buyer through an acquisition. The chapter also highlights some key questions that remain unanswered, as well as a few areas of inquiry that challenge our common wisdom and give rise to controversy.

Syndication or co-investment is a potent way of pooling resources among peer Venture Capital (VC) firms. This is even more vital for Foreign VC firms (FVCFs) when investing in destinations that are geographically distant from their countries of origin. Although FVCFs are relatively abundantly endowed in terms of financial capital, they are distinctly disadvantaged in terms of their social capital when investing in geographies that are distinctly different in terms of their institutions, norms, and culture from their own. One of the ways in which FVCFs overcome this impediment is by investing in human resources that serve as a bridge between their financial and social capital. Accordingly, the primary aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the resources of FVCFs and their syndication intensity. Using the technique of logistic regression, we arrive at several interesting findings. FVCFs with a greater proportion of investment executives with prior founding experience in India and those with lower proportions of professionals of Indian origin demonstrate lower syndication intensity. Similarly, the syndication intensity diminishes with the increase in size of the investing team. FVCFs with greater fund size demonstrate a lower need for syndication. Greater endowment of social capital as proxied by the age of the VC firm is seen to enhance the syndication intensity.

The study was designed to explore the relationship between enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability. Enterprises can only meet the generational intention of founders when they are properly managed exemplified by sustainable performance. Business failures in recent history refocused attention towards good enterprise risk management to promote organizational sustainability. Sustainability implies meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future generations, and this cannot happen in an environment drenched in weak enterprise risk management. Corporate governance perspective suggests that the BODs of a company has the ultimate responsibility to establish effective risk management framework for the healthy performance and sustainability of the enterprise. Therefore, a major concern of the BODs is to diversify away risks and to create a stable average to enhance organizational performance.  Management decision making as an integral part of modern management aims at both enterprise risk minimization and the optimal achievement of organizational goals and sustainability. The exploratory research design was used for the study. Data generated and analyzed through statistical techniques, showed strong positive relationship between enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability. Because of limitations in terms of current literature, the study was not exhaustive; therefore, further study should examine the relationship between weak risk management and enterprise failure. It was recommended that complex organizations must establish good corporate governance structure to promote enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability.

The article highlights the aspects of risk management in the information system. According to the analysis of the work of Russian and foreign scientists and world practices in the field of risk management, it is stated that there is a need to improve the effectiveness of risk management of information system and to develop a method for managing the risks of the information system. As a solution to the problem of effective risk management of the information system, there has been proposed a formalized procedure for managing the risks of the information system. The scientific novelty of this solution is the use of decision space and optimization space to reduce risks. This procedure allows to assess the damage, risk and effectiveness of risk management of the information system. The risks of the information system are determined and analyzed; a pyramidal risk diagram is developed. This diagram allows you to describe the relationship of risks with the components of the information system. The negative consequences to which these risks can lead are given. The analysis of methods and approaches to risk management has been carried out. Based on the results of the analysis, the methods GRAMM, CORAS, GOST R ISO / IEC scored to the maximum. The weak points of these methods and the difficulty of applying these methods in practice are described. The developed formalized risk management procedure to control the risks of information system can be used as management system’s element of the information security quality that complies with the recommendations of GOST R ISO / IEC 27003-2012. The prospect of further development of the research results is the development of management systems of risk of information system.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an effective technique in managing risk within an organization strategically and holistically. Risk culture relates to the general awareness, attitudes and behaviours towards risk management in an organisation. This paper presents a conceptual model that shows the relationship between risk culture and ERM implementation. The dependent variable is ERM implementation, which is measured by the four processes namely risk identification and risk assessment; risk treatment; monitor and consult; communicate and consult. The independent variables under risk culture are risk policy and risk appetite; key risk indicators; accountability; incentives; risk language and internal relationships. This study aims to empirically test the relationship between risk culture and ERM implementation among Malaysian construction public listed companies. Risk culture is expected to have direct effects and significantly influence ERM. This study contributes to enhance the body of knowledge in ERM especially in understanding significant of risk culture that influence its’ implementation from Malaysian perspective.
