AbstractA novel and efficient synthesis of eight 5-aryl-1,3-dimethyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4,5,8-hexahydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-7-carboxylic acids using a TiO2/SiO2 nanocomposite with a molar ratio of 1:1 as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst is described. The desired products, five of which are new, are formed in short reaction times (2–3 h) with high to excellent yields (94%–98%) under very moderate reaction conditions (room temperature, aqueous media).

Commercial iron (II) phthalocyanine (FePc) was knitted with biphenyl using a Friedel–Crafts reaction to yield a micro-meso porous organic polymer (FePc-POP) with a specific surface area of 427 m2/g and 5.42% of iron loading. This strategy allowed for the direct synthesis of a heterogeneous catalyst from an iron containing monomer. The catalytic system, formed by the knitted polymer containing FePc and DMAP (4-dimethylamino pyridine) as base, results in an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the cycloaddition of CO2 to epichlorohydrin to selectively obtain the corresponding cyclic carbonate. Thus, a TON (mmol substrate converted/mmol catalysts used) value of 2700 was reached in 3 h under mild reaction conditions (solvent free, 90 °C, 3 bar of CO2). The catalyst does not exhibit leaching during the reactions, which was attributed to the excellent stability of the metal in the macrocycle.

Substituted 2-aminophenyl benzothiazoles have been constructed from thiourea via copper-catalyzed desulfurization/nucleophilic substitution followed by domino intra- and intermolecular C–N cross-coupling reactions under moderate reaction conditions.

A diphenylphosphinite cellulose palladium complex (Cell–OPPh2–Pd0) was found to be a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction. The products were obtained in good to excellent yield under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, the catalyst could be easily recovered by simple filtration and reused for at least 6 cycles without losing its activity.

AbstractThe scope of mesoporous molecular sieves, Al-MCM-41, as catalysts in the ozone initiated fuctionalisation of higher n-alkanes at 20 ± 1 °C and ~1 atm conditions is investigated. Oxygen is introduced into carbonaceous site in the product molecule forming 2-, 3- and 4- keto- isomers as main products and carboxylic acids as minor products. The % conversion, reaction products and selectivity for the catalysed reactions are compared. In presence of catalysts, the relative selectivity towards 4-ketone is increased.
