There is increasing interest in composites containing zirconia because of their high strength, fracture toughness, and its great influence on the chemical durability in glass. For the zirconia-silica system, monolithic glasses, fibers and coatings have been obtained. There is currently a great interest in designing zirconia-toughened alumina including exploration of the processing methods and the toughening mechanism.The possibility of forming nanocrystal composites by a phase separation method has been investigated in three systems: zirconia-alumina, zirconia-silica and zirconia-titania using HREM. The morphological observations initially suggest that the formation of nanocrystal composites by a phase separation method is possible in the zirconia-alumina and zirconia-silica systems, but impossible in the zirconia-titania system. The separation-produced grain size in silica-zirconia system is around 5 nm and is more uniform than that in the alumina-zirconia system in which the sizes of the small polyhedron grains are around 10 nm. In the titania-zirconia system, there is no obvious separation as was observed in die alumina-zirconia and silica-zirconia system.

В данной статье рассматривается применение и технологии получения наноструктурированных поверхностей. Рассмотрены такие методы как компактирование порошков (изостатическое прессование, метод Гляйтера), интенсивная пластическая деформация (угловое кручение, равноканальное угловое прессование, обработка давлением многослойных композитов) и модификация поверхности (лазерная обработка, ионная бомбардировка). This article discusses the application and technology for obtaining nano-structured surfaces. Methods such as compaction of powders (isostatic pressing, Gleiter method), severe plastic deformation (angular torsion, equal-channel angular pressing, pressure treatment of multilayer composites) and surface modification (laser treatment, ion bombardment) are considered.

In this paper, the stochastic parameters of the effective thermal conductivity of multilayer composites are considered. The examined specimens of composites were built with a different number of layers and each had a different saturation density of a composite matrix with fibers. For each case of laminate built with a prescribed number of layers and assumed saturation density, 10,000 tests of its effective thermal conductivity were carried out using numerical experiments. It was assumed that the fibers located in each layer were rectilinear, had a circular cross-section and that they could take random positions in their repeatable volume elements (RVEs). In view of the mentioned assumptions, the heat flux passing throughout a cross-section of a composite sample, perpendicular to the fibers’ direction, was considered. The probability density functions were fitted to the obtained data and then the chosen stochastic parameters of the effective thermal conductivity coefficients were determined.
