<div>During the past six years as a "General Subjects Teacher" in a Provincial Technical High School with a roll of 700 plus I have observed with misgiving the apparent marked lack of reading ability displayed by the pupils. I have felt continually frustrated in my attempts to teach various subjects by the fact that a preponderance of the pupils are poor readers. Furthermore a considerable proportion of pupils openly resented opportunities to avail themselves of a free choice of reading matter during any silent periods offered to them. Many were content to turn over pages of books or magazines and frequently gave pictures only the most cursory scrutiny.</div>

The purpose of the work presented is to analyze a way to introduce the concept of ge-ometrical isomerism within a metacognitive perspective. This research was conducted with six students from high school, whose task was to build and distinguish geometric isomers with models made of plastic balls. The results indicate that this type of activity was favorable for expression of metacognition and metavisualization and, to some extent; this may have helped the students to identify the cis and trans isomers, allowing the construction of the initial concept of geometrical isomerism. Furthermore, there was the identification of other factors that affected the development of the task, in particular, the visual skills that seem very important for the student to become metavisual. Keywords: geometric isomerism, metacognition, metavisualization, visual ability visualiza-tion.

AbstractThis reseach was motivated by low of students’ reading comprehension and their reading interest. To anticipate this problem, the researcher offered group close technique – a technique focussed to enrich students’ vocabulary the research used desciptive quantitative. The population of this research was the eight grade students of Junior High School (SMP) Pembangunan UNP Padang. The reseach sample were taken using random sampling. The instrument used was reading comprehension test. The research revealed students’ abililty as follows: (1) an excellent reader was 2.8 percent; (2) very good readers were 11.1 percent; (3) good readers were 11.1 percent; (4) adequate readers were 19.4 percent; (5) less adequate readers were 41.7 percent; and (6) poor readers were 22.2 percent.  Kata Kunci: penerapan, teknik group close, membaca pemahaman

High school cosmetology students study the methods and effects of various human hair treatments, including permanents, straightening, conditioning, coloring and cutting. Although they are provided with textbook examples of overtreatment and numerous hair disorders and diseases, a view of an individual hair at the high resolution offered by an SEM provides convincing evidence of the hair‘s altered structure. Magnifications up to 2000X provide dramatic differences in perspective. A good quality classroom optical microscope can be very informative at lower resolutions.Students in a cosmetology class are initially split into two groups. One group is taught basic controls on the SEM (focus, magnification, brightness, contrast, specimen X, Y, and Z axis movements). A healthy, untreated piece of hair is initially examined on the SEM The second group cements a piece of their own hair on a stub. The samples are dryed quickly using heat or vacuum while the groups trade places and activities.

A modification of the Paired-Stimuli Parent Program (Florance, 1977) was adapted for the treatment of articulatory errors of visually handicapped children. Blind high school students served as clinical aides. A discussion of treatment methodology, and the results of administrating the program to 32 children, including a two-year follow-up evaluation to measure permanence of behavior change, is presented.
