Nanocrystalline cadmium sulfide thin films are prepared using chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique in aqueous alkaline bath at 60 °C and their subsequent condensation on glass substrates. Effects of annealing on structural, morphological and optical properties are presented and discussed. The best annealing temperature for CBD grown CdS films is found to be 350 °C from optical properties. The optical and structural properties of CdS films are found to be sensitive to annealing temperature and are described in terms of XRD, SEM, transmission spectra and optical studies. The structural parameters such as crystallite size have been evaluated through XRD while SEM micrographs exhibit ordering of grains upon annealing. The transmission spectra shift towards higher wavelength upon annealing indicating increase in crystallinity. Annealing over 350 °C is found to degrade the external structure and optical properties of the film.

TiO2 is a widely studied material for many important applications in areas such as environmental purification, photocatalyst, gas sensors, cancer therapy and high effect solar cell. However, investigations demonstrated that the properties and applications of titanium oxide films depend upon the nature of the crystalline phases present in the films, i.e. anatase and rutile phases. We report on the pulsed laser deposition of high quality TiO2 thin films. Pulsed Laser deposition of TiO2 thin films were performed in different ambient viz. oxygen, argon and vacuum, using a second harmonic of Nd:YAG laser of 6 ns pulse width. These deposited films of TiO2 were further annealed for 5hrs in air at different temperatures. TiO2 thin films were characterized using x-ray diffraction, SEM, photoluminescence, transmittance and reflectance. We observed effect of annealing over structural, morphological and optical properties of TiO2 thin films. The anatase phase of as-deposited TiO2 thin films is found to change into rutile phase with increased annealing temperature. Increase in crystalline behaviour of thin films with post-annealing temperature is also observed. Surface morphology of TiO2 thin films is dependent upon ambient pressure and post- annealing temperature. TiO2 thin films are found to be optically transparent with very low reflectivity hence will be suitable for antireflection coating applications.

From the hard and anti-corrosions coatings, we found the chromium carbides, these components were discovered by large studies; like thin films since years ago. They were pointed a good quality for the protection of steel, because of their thermal and mechanical properties for this reason, it was used in many fields for protection. Plus: their hardness and their important function in mechanical coatings. The aim of this work joins a study of the effect of the thermal treatment on mechanical and structural properties of the Cr/steel system. Thin films were deposited by cathodic magnetron sputtering on the steel substrates of 100C6, contain 1% wt of carbon. Samples were annealing in vacuum temperature interval between 700 to 1000 °C since 45 min, it forms the chromium carbides. Then pieces are characterising by X-ray diffraction, X-ray microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy. Mechanical properties are analysing by Vickers test. The X-ray diffraction analyse point the formation of the Cr7C3, Cr23C6 carbides at 900°C; they transformed to ternary carbides in a highest temperature, but the Cr3C2 doesn’t appear. The X-ray microanalysis shows the diffusion mechanism between the chromium film and the steel sample; from the variation of: Cr, Fe, C, O elements concentration with the change of annealing temperature. The variation of annealing temperature shows a clean improvement in mechanical and structural properties, like the adhesion and the micro-hardness.
