ABSTRACT Aim The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pretreatment of different irrigating solutions with and without the application the Nd: YAG laser on the bond strength (RU) of the adhesion of the fiberglass post relined with resin composite to the root dentin. Materials and methods Sixty-six single bovine incisor roots were divided into 6 groups according to irrigating solution and with/without the apllication of the Nd: YAG laser after root canal filling: S- saline; C-2% chlorhexidine solution, H-2.5% sodium hypochlorite; SL-saline + laser, CL-2% chlorhexidine + laser; HL-2.5% sodium hypochlorite + laser (all n = 11). The roots were standardized up to a file # 80 and root-filled with gutta-percha (Dentsply) and Sealer 26 (Dentsply) by lateral condensation. The root canal filling was partly removed. Afterward, root canals were irrigated with 5 ml of the selected irrigant and the fiberglass post were cemented with epoxy resin curing dual Bifix QM (VOCO) and a self-etch adhesive system Futurabond DC (VOCO). All roots were sectioned transversely, and the push-out tested was performed. The bond strength means were analyzed by the analysis of variance and Tukey test (α= 5%). Results The following bond strength MPa values—were recorded for each group: group C—7.77(±1.8)a, LC—6.46 (±2.2)a, S7.33 (±2.2)a, LS 7.35 (±1.68)a, H 5.43 (±1,3)b, LH 5.13 (±1,6)b. A signifcant bond strenght decrease was noticed with the use of 2.5% NaOCl (p < 0.05). No statistical significant difference were found with our without the apllication of the Nd:YAG laser (p > 0.05). Conclusion Regardless the irrigant tested, the use of Nd: YAG laser can be indicated prior to cementation of fiberglass without loss in bond strength. Abstract Introduction The resistance adhesive of a fiber post can be affected by several factors, such as the endodontic sealer and post-endodontic waiting time. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different endodontic sealers and two different post-endodontic waiting times on the bond strength of fiber posts. Material and method Seventy-two bovine teeth were endodontically treated and filled using three endodontic sealers: eugenol-based, epoxy resin-based, or mineral trioxide aggregate-based. The specimens were stored at 37°C for 24 hours or for 30 months. After the respective storage times, the root canals were prepared for luting fiber posts using RelyX U200. Push-out tests and analysis of failures were performed. The push-out data were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance to compare the effects of the endodontic sealer and with the t-test to compare the effects of post-endodontic waiting time. Result The AH Plus sealer yielded the highest bond strength values at 30 months post-endodontics (11.26 Mpa) (p < 0.05), however no had difference with Endofill sealer at the same time. Endofill and MTA Fillapex sealers did not differ significantly in their effects, irrespective of the post-endodontic waiting time. Conclusion In conclusion, the endodontic sealer used and post-endodontic waiting time affect the adhesive resistance of fiber posts. The adhesion increases significantly when the fiber post is cemented 30 months after the root canal filling, while the adhesion is reduced when cementing immediately after root canal treatment, in particular for eugenol-based endodontic sealers.

Aim. Root canal filling materials have the tendency to inhibit adhesion of resin-based composites. This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of root canal filling materials and their solvents on the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin composite with the primary tooth dentin. Methods and Materials. Seventy-two intact anterior primary teeth were selected. Smooth dentinal surfaces were prepared to a minimum diameter of 3 mm and thickness of 1.5–2.0 mm. The samples were equally divided into six groups ( n = 12 ). In group 1: control group, no root filling material; in group 2: Metapex, no solvent; in group 3: Metapex+ethanol solvent; in group 4: ZOE, no solvent; in group 5: ZOE+ethanol solvent; and in group 6: ZOE+orange oil solvent were applied. Then, dentin surfaces were etched, and composite restorations were placed and cured. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours. SBS values were determined using a universal testing machine. Results. The SBS values of composite to dentin in groups 2 and 4 were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P < 0.001 ). Cleansing of the specimens with 96% ethanol after removal of Metapex significantly increased the composite-dentin bond ( P < 0.001 ). Applying ZOE, only orange oil solvent significantly increased the SBS of the composite to the primary tooth dentin ( P = 0.01 ). Conclusion. To reduce the negative effects of endodontic root filling materials on the SBS of composite and primary tooth dentin, ethanol is a suitable solvent when Metapex is used, while orange oil might be a better choice than ethanol when applying ZOE.
