AbstractCd1−xZnxSe (x = 0, 0.40 and 1) thin films were deposited on a glass substrate at room temperature by closed space sublimation method. Optical investigation has been performed using spectrophotometry and ellipsometry. It has been found that for as deposited films the optical band gap increased and the optical constants decreased with increasing Zn content. To improve the optical properties of Cd1−xZnxSe thin films annealing effect at 400 °C was taken into consideration for various Zn contents. It was observed that the optical transmittance and band gap decreased while optical constants increased with increasing Zn content after annealing. The effects of composition and annealing on the optical dispersion parameters Eo and Ed were investigated using a single effective oscillator model. The calculated value of the average excitation energy Eo obeys the empirical relation (Eo = Eg/2) obtained from the single oscillator model.

Rare earth Gd-doped ZnO thin films were prepared by a simple sol-gel spin coating method in order to search for a new functional diluted magnetic semiconductor for potential application in spintronics. The thin films were deposited onto glass substrates with zinc acetate dehydrate, monoethanolamine and 2-methoxyethanol as a starting material, stabilizer and solvent, respectively. The dopant percentage was increased up to 8%. Optical investigation showed that the crystallinity of the thin films was changing due to the increase of the Gd concentrations and optical band gap energy (Eg) value was estimated to be around 3.12 ~ 3.28 eV using Tauc's model. The crystallite size determined from XRD spectra and the results was found that the value is in the range of 14.42 ~ 21.98 nm.

In this work, we present a detailed optical investigation of the effects of the environment on the photoluminescence (PL) spectra and the relaxation dynamics of pristine and aged CsPbBr3 nanocrystal (NC) thin films. We demonstrate that, contrary to previous results on similar NCs, the PL intensity of pristine NCs is higher when the sample is in wet air than in vacuum, due to the passivation of defects reducing the free exciton trapping and the bound excitons non-radiative relaxation. The aged NCs show a PL intensity increase in wet air nine times stronger than the pristine ones, due to an interplay between static and dynamic effects, increasing the number of emitting NCs and reducing the non-radiative recombination rate of free excitons. These results improve the understanding of the possible interactions between perovskite NCs and the environment, which could be relevant for the development of optical gas sensors exploiting perovskite NCs.
