The aim of the study is the scientific and experimental identification of a complex of effective pedagogical conditions for the formation of the graphic culture of school students in the process of using computer technologies. In the article, based on the analysis of the structure of graphic culture in the system of the general culture of the personality of a student of the XXI century, as well as identifying the features of the use of computer technologies in modern school education, the effectiveness of creating pedagogical conditions for the formation of the graphic culture of school students is theoretically and experimentally substantiated: the use of a complex of program-methodological and pedagogical teaching aids using computer technology, the implementation of an active learning model in the organization of educational activities and the interaction of the teacher and students in the classroom. The article describes an empirical study of the conditions for the formation of the graphic culture of school students in sketching lessons: the diagnosed parameters are determined, a comprehensive test of the level of graphic culture in secondary school students is carried out, an assessment of the effectiveness of the influence of a complex of pedagogical learning conditions on the formation of the graphic culture of students is given. The experiment revealed the need to create special pedagogical conditions that form the basis for the development and implementation of the elective course program “Technical Sketching Using CAD”.

The current socio-educational situation, which has recently developed in the general education schools of our country, is associated with a large inflow of migrants and the realization of their right to education. The relevance of the research topic is due to the need to create a systematic approach in the education of schoolchildren, who do not have the Russian language as their native one. Moreover, it is due to the development of an intensive methodology for the formation of cultural and communication competence in children of migrants. The paper presents the author’s elective course “Russian Language Without Borders” for students of the sixth grade of secondary school, which is aimed at improving the socio-cultural and educationalcognitive competence of students. A lesson on the development of students’ speech, based on the novel by The Yakut author Viktoria Gabysheva “Karina. 12 days in the taiga” has been demonstrated. Based on the experiment conducted among the students of the 6th grade of secondary school No. 15 in Yakutsk, the authors came to the conclusion that it is essential to apply a systematic approach in the formation of the linguistic and socio-cultural competence of students.

In the course of mathematics of secondary school it is not provided the consideration of a separate topic “Theory of Diophantine equations”, but such equations are increasingly appearing in the texts of additional entrance tests for technical, physical, mathematical and economic specialties of prestigious universities and in the last task of tests of the profi le level of the exam in mathematics. This material is very scattered in various publications, so for its systematization the authors developed an elective course “The solution of Diophantine equations”. Within the framework of this course, the classification of the main methods of solving equations in integers by elementary means and their adaptation for eleventh grades was carried out. Each of the considered methods of solution is provided with a detailed illustration of the features of its application on examples and a selection of tasks for solution without help of teacher.

The subject of this research is the questions of students’ preparation for Chemistry Olympiads. The author analyzes the content of the school chemistry course, hosting of school Chemistry Olympiads and the issues of preparation, as well as formulates methodology of teaching the secondary school student how to solve the Olympiad tasks. The author also composes a number of standards for chemistry teacher aimed at the development of students’ creative abilities through solving the Olympiad tasks and selects the tasks for studying certain topics in the school chemistry course. The program of elective course that contributes to preparation of students for participation in Olympiads is being developed and tested. Having analyzed the research results, it is safe to say that the solution of Olympiad tasks is advantageous for the students, as they help to digest the new material. The majority of students believe that the Olympiad tasks should be used in educational process, because they develop thought process and creativity. A conclusion is made that introduction of the recommended elective course increases students’ interests in the subject, as well as the level of grasping the material and the quality of students’ knowledge.

Summary The German Pupils Academy (Deutsche Schüler-Akademie) is a summer-school program for highly gifted secondary-school students. Three types of program evaluation were conducted. Input evaluation confirmed the participants as intellectually highly gifted students who are intrinsically motivated and interested to attend the courses offered at the summer school. Process evaluation focused on the courses attended by the participants as the most important component of the program. Accordingly, the instructional approaches meet the needs of highly gifted students for self-regulated and discovery oriented learning. The product or impact evaluation was based on a multivariate social-cognitive framework. The findings indicate that the program contributes to promoting motivational and cognitive prerequisites for transforming giftedness into excellent performances. To some extent, the positive effects on students' self-efficacy and self-regulatory strategies are due to qualities of the learning environments established by the courses.

This study introduces the Schoolwork Engagement Inventory (EDA), which measures energy, dedication, and absorption with respect to schoolwork. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the validity and reliability of the inventory among students attending postcomprehensive schools. A total of 1,530 (769 girls, 761 boys) students from 13 institutions (six upper-secondary and seven vocational schools) completed the EDA 1 year apart. The results showed that a one-factor solution had the most reliability and fitted best among the younger students, whereas a three-factor solution was most reliable and fit best among the older students. In terms of concurrent validity, depressive symptoms and school burnout were inversely related, and self-esteem and academic achievement were positively associated with EDA. Boys and upper-secondary-school students experienced lower levels of schoolwork engagement than girls and vocational-school students.

Based on the model of Reid, Giles and Abrams (2004 , Zeitschrift für Medienpsychologie, 16, 17–25), this paper describes and analyzes the relation between television use and ethnolinguistic-coping strategies among German speakers in South Tyrol, Italy. The data were collected among secondary school students (N = 415) in 2011. The results indicated that the television use of the students was dominated by the German language. A mediation analysis revealed that TV viewing contributed to the perception of ethnolinguistic vitality, the permeability of intergroup boundaries, and status stability, which in turn affected ethnolinguistic-coping strategies of mobility (moving toward the outgroup), creativity (maintaining identity without confrontation), and competition (fighting for ingroup rights and respect). Findings and theoretical implications are discussed.
