Six pictures by Western artists were selected from a group of 10 reproduced as sets of transparent component overlays. For each work university students, 34 women and 16 men, were presented with one set of disassembled overlays, all either in original orientation or all laterally reversed. Their task was to select that assemblage of elements which created the best picture. Subjects' constructions confirmed that in each picture there is a constancy of structure that is independent of lateral organization. This fact coexists with whatever differential effects eliminating a component may achieve as a function of picture orientation. Pictures differ, it is suggested: (a) in the distribution of contributions which individual components make to the organization of the work and (b) in their resistance to fragmentation. Lateral elements in particular are expendable. Susceptibility to fragmentation is greater for mirror-image than original representations.

The article examines the problem of increasing self-motivation in professional creative self-expression of university students studying art. . The authors of the study believe that implementation of students’ training architecture and art projects should become the basis for developing education programs for art schools. The idea can be implemented providing that students will be involved into the process of university subject-spatial environment creation; education programs will be adapted to implementation of students’ training architecture and art projects; the situation of success will be created in the process of education activities. All these factors will help to increase students’ self-motivation in professional creative self-expression. The authors justify the necessity of creation of the education conditions mentioned above and provide the findings of the study.

107 Marshall University students were categorized as less, moderate, and more autonomous imagers according to the Gordon Test of Visual Imagery Control. More autonomous imagers obtained higher mean creative perception scores than moderate and less autonomous imagers, and moderate imagers obtained higher scores on creative perception than less autonomous imagers as measured by Something About Myself.

This study examined the effect of gender on perceptions of stalking following the breakup of a romantic relationship. Three hundred forty-nine university students were presented with 11 brief scenarios in which the gender of the target and pursuer of the harassment behavior were systematically varied. Participants were asked to rate the degree to which they considered the behavior stalking, how concerned they would be if this was happening to a friend, and the likelihood that they would recommend help seeking. Participants were significantly more likely to express concern for and to recommend both informal and formal help seeking when the scenarios described a man stalking a woman. This research is important in understanding factors that influence perceptions of stalking and harassment, which may have repercussions for the legislation and enforcement of stalking laws.

AbstractThe supposed benefit of humor for the relief of distress has not been demonstrated with certainty amongst Chinese people. In particular, an empirical study of this benefit is necessary in order to clarify the differential effects of different styles of humor, after controlling for optimism. With this aim, the present study investigates the effects based on data from 493 university students in three Chinese cities, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macau. Results reveal some negative and positive effects of different humor styles on distress, independently of effects due to optimism. These effects did not vary among the three cities. Nevertheless, some limitations of the effects of humor are notable.
