This study is concerned with the synthesis and characterization of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives (3a-3e). These compounds were prepared by reacting mercaptoacetic acid with the appropriate Schiff bases (imines) by heating at 50-60 °C in chloroform with moderate yields (51- 75 %). The structures of these 4-thiazolidinone derivatives were established on the basis of spectral studies using IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and13C-NMR DEPT .

Objectives: The aim of our work was to synthesize novel mixed ligand-metal complexes and evaluation of antimicrobial, antioxidant assay, and analysis of catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane. Methods: The complexes were characterized by means of various physicochemical techniques such as elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, infrared (IR), electronic absorption, 1H NMR (proton magnetic resonance), and mass spectral studies. The antimicrobial screening study was done by disc diffusion method. The catalytic activity of the complexes was observed in the oxidation of cyclohexane using eco-friendly hydrogen peroxide as oxidant. Results: On comparing the 1H NMR and IR spectral data of free ligand and its complexes, it was found to be azomethine (CH=N) proton which is formed in the free ligand. During complexation, the azomethine proton is coordinated to the metal ion and the phenolic oxygen is coordinated to the metal ion by deprotonation. The analytical data and mass spectra of the ligand and the complexes confirm the stoichiometry of metal complexes as being of the (MLY)Cl type and the metal to ligand ratio is 1:1. The antimicrobial, antioxidant, and catalytic potential were evaluated and the result shows the better activity of the complexes than the ligand. Conclusion: It was found to be copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes which are effective against all the bacteria when compared to standard drug streptomycin. Copper(II) complex was found to be effective antibacterial agent against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus in comparison to the standard drug Nystatin. The zinc complex exhibited good catalytic activity.

2+2 Cyclocondensation of 1,7-diaminoheptane with ?-diketones, viz 2,3-butanedione, 3,4-hexanedione or 4,4?-dimethylbenzil, in the presence of Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+ ions as templates yields a series of complexes of the type [ML(X2)](where L = N4 macrocycle having a 22-membered ring and X=Cl or NCS). The resulting complexes were characterized by elemental analysis conductance measurements and IR and 1H-NMR spectral studies.

A novel thioindigo dye was synthesized, from 7, 7’-bis-chlorocarbonyl thioindigo, containing OH groups at the terminal positions of the oxyethylene side chains. The resultant dye 7, 7’-Bis[[2- [2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy]ethoxycarbonyl]thioindigo (1) was characterized by 1H NMR, IR, and mass spectral studies. The thioindigo derivative (1), which possesses a molecular architecture, undergoes reversible photochromic reaction and capable of capturing different metal ions and transports them through liquid membrane. Enhancement of binding ability (i) by incorporating OH groups instead of large phenyl or methyl groups, (ii) by trans to cis photoisomerization of (1), iii) the highest amount of transported Ag+ by (1) across a liquid membrane when irradiated with 550 and 480 nm light alternately, were found. New complex of Palladium (0) with ciprofloxacin has been synthesized, The complex was portrayed by different physico - substance systems like essential examination, m.pt. , TLC, molar conductance estimation, attractive helplessness,13C- NMR, 1H-NMR and FT-IR. According to the results obtained, tetrahedral structure suggested for the prepared complex. The neutral ligand act in a Didentate mode, binding through oxygen atom of carbonyl group in pyridonering and oxygen atom of carboxyl ate group.

(2E)-3-(2-Bromo-6-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-1-(naphthalene-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one (d1) was synthesized by the Claisen-Schmidt condensation method and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectral studies. The anti-inflammatory activity was conducted in Swiss albino rats for paw edema model. Edema was actuated with 1 % carrageenan to every one of the animals following 1 h of the oral medicines. Paw thickness was checked at t = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 24 h. Stair climbing score and motility score were surveyed at t = 24 h. Compound d1 signicant decline in paw thickness at p < 0.001 diminished by 32 % in paw thickness. The compound d1 signicantly expanded the stair climbing and motility score. This study suggested that the compound d1 exhibits remarkable anti-inflammatory activity when compared with that of the standard drug.

Template synthesis, characterization and reactivities of anionic transition metal complexes with tetraazaprotonated 11,13-dimethyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclotrideca-4,6,10,13-tetraene-5,6-diol as cation has been achieved. By magnetic and spectral studies, hexachlorometallate(II) anionic complexes have been found to be octahedral. It is envisioned that the cationic macrocycle may be associating with both the complex and chloride anions through hydrogen bonding thereby rendering the molecule as a whole neutral. Deprotonation, protonation analysis and chemosensor behaviour have been showed by pH variation studies and relevant anionic additions, respectively. All of these data supports the newly synthesized anionic complexes in a strange manner.
