We study the local connectedness of the Julia set of the family $f_b(z)=z^m(z^n-b)$. Assuming that the Julia set is connected and depending on whether $m=1$ or $m>1$, a sufficient condition for the local connectivity of the Julia set is obtained. This complements the known results of Yoccoz–Hubbard–Branner for $m=n=1$.

In this paper, we discuss statistical families with the property that if the distribution of a random variable X is in , then so is the distribution of Z ∼Bi( X ,  p ) for 0≤ p ≤1. (Here we take Z ∼Bi( X ,  p ) to mean that given X = x ,  Z is a draw from the binomial distribution Bi( x ,  p ).) It is said that the family is closed under binomial subsampling. We characterize such families in terms of probability generating functions and for families with finite moments of all orders we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the family to be closed under binomial subsampling. The results are illustrated with power series and other examples, and related to examples from mathematical biology. Finally, some issues concerning inference are discussed.

In this paper, we study the dynamics of the family of rational maps with two parameters $$\begin{eqnarray}f_{a,b}(z)=z^{n}+\frac{a^{2}}{z^{n}-b}+\frac{a^{2}}{b},\end{eqnarray}$$ where $n\geq 2$ and $a,b\in \mathbb{C}^{\ast }$. We give a characterization of the topological properties of the Julia set and the Fatou set of $f_{a,b}$ according to the dynamical behavior of the orbits of the free critical points.

The complexification of the standard family of circle maps Fαβ(θ)=θ+α+β+β sin(θ) mod (2π) is given by Fαβ(ω)=ωeiαe(β/2)(ω−1/ω) and its lift fαβ(z)=z+a+β sin(z). We investigate the three-dimensional parameter space for Fαβ that results from considering a complex and β real. In particular, we study the two-dimensional cross-sections β=constant as β tends to zero. As the functions tend to the rigid rotation Fα,0, their dynamics tend to the dynamics of the family Gλ(z)=λzez where λ=e−iα. This new family exhibits behavior typical of the exponential family together with characteristic features of quadratic polynomials. For example, we show that the λ-plane contains infinitely many curves for which the Julia set of the corresponding maps is the whole plane. We also prove the existence of infinitely many sets of λ values homeomorphic to the Mandelbrot set.

We study a family of rational maps of the Riemann sphere with the property that each map has two fixed points with multiplier -1; moreover, each map has no period 2 orbits. The family we analyze is Ra(z) = (z3 - z)/(-z2 + az + 1), where a varies over all nonzero complex numbers. We discuss many dynamical properties of Ra including bifurcations of critical orbit behavior as a varies, connectivity of the Julia set J(Ra), and we give estimates on the Hausdorff dimension of J(Ra).

Quantum Bernoulli noises (QBN) are the family of annihilation and creation operators acting on Bernoulli functionals, which satisfy a canonical anti-commutation relation in equal-time. In this paper, we aim to investigate quantum Feller semigroups in terms of QBN. We first investigate local structure of the algebra generated by identity operator and QBN. We then use our new results obtained here to construct a class of quantum Markov semigroups from QBN which enjoy Feller property. As an application of our results, we examine a special quantum Feller semigroup associated with QBN, when it reduced to a certain Abelian subalgebra, the semigroup gives rise to the semigroup generated by Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operator. Finally, we find a sufficient condition for the existence of faithful invariant states that are diagonal for the semigroup.

In this paper we introduce the notion of parabolic-like mapping. Such an object is similar to a polynomial-like mapping, but it has a parabolic external class, i.e. an external map with a parabolic fixed point. We define the notion of parabolic-like mapping and we study the dynamical properties of parabolic-like mappings. We prove a straightening theorem for parabolic-like mappings which states that any parabolic-like mapping of degree two is hybrid conjugate to a member of the family $$\begin{eqnarray}\mathit{Per}_{1}(1)=\left\{[P_{A}]\,\bigg|\,P_{A}(z)=z+\frac{1}{z}+A,~A\in \mathbb{C}\right\}\!,\end{eqnarray}$$ a unique such member if the filled Julia set is connected.

AbstractWe describe the dynamical behaviour of the entire transcendental function exp(z). We use symbolic dynamics to describe the complicated orbit structure of this map whose Julia Set is the entire complex plane. Bifurcations occurring in the family c exp(z) are discussed in the final section.

Abstract In this paper will be considered density-like points and density-like topology in the family of Lebesgue measurable subsets of real numbers connected with a sequence 𝓙= {Jn}n∈ℕ of closed intervals tending to zero. The main result concerns necessary and sufficient condition for inclusion between that defined topologies.

AbstractWe consider linear iterated function systems (IFS) with a constant contraction ratio in the plane for which the ‘overlap set’ 𝒪 is finite, and which are ‘invertible’ on the attractor A, in the sense that there is a continuous surjection q:A→A whose inverse branches are the contractions of the IFS. The overlap set is the critical set in the sense that q is not a local homeomorphism precisely at 𝒪. We suppose also that there is a rational function p with the Julia set J such that (A,q) and (J,p) are conjugate. We prove that if A has bounded turning and p has no parabolic cycles, then the conjugacy is quasisymmetric. This result is applied to some specific examples including an uncountable family. Our main focus is on the family of IFS {λz,λz+1} where λ is a complex parameter in the unit disk, such that its attractor Aλ is a dendrite, which happens whenever 𝒪 is a singleton. C. Bandt observed that a simple modification of such an IFS (without changing the attractor) is invertible and gives rise to a quadratic-like map qλ on Aλ. If the IFS is post-critically finite, then a result of A. Kameyama shows that there is a quadratic map pc (z)=z2 +c, with the Julia set Jc such that (Aλ,qλ) and (Jc,pc) are conjugate. We prove that this conjugacy is quasisymmetric and obtain partial results in the general (not post-critically finite) case.
