Our study examined the two-dimensional nature of the Two Major Environmental Values model (2-MEV) in comparison with the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale’s unidimensional construct. The latter places respondents on a continuum from a bio-centric to anthropocentric worldview, where an individual can either have a pro-environmental (bio-centric) or an anti-environmental (anthropocentric) perspective, but not both. On the other hand, the 2-MEV treats biocentrism (Preservation, PRE) and anthropocentrism (Utilization, UTL) as two separate and not necessarily related components. The model allows us to place individuals into one of four quadrants, rather than on either end of a continuum, allowing an individual to have a bio-centric and an anthropocentric worldview at the same time. Students’ environmental perceptions were measured using the NEP and 2-MEV questionnaires. As predicted, high preservation/low utilization scorers preferred a biocentric worldview on the NEP; similarly, low preservation/high utilization scorers preferred an anthropocentric worldview on the NEP. However, the NEP failed to differentiate between the high preservation/high utilization and low preservation/low utilizations scorers. Both of these groups of students, while on different quadrants on the 2-MEV, cluster together in the middle of the unidimensional NEP. Evidence suggests that the NEP may not fully explore all dimensions of environmental perceptions.

Exploitation and processing of small stone blocks and tombolons has a major impact on profitability. It is pointed out that the natural stone needs to be rationally used in deposits. Resources of rock mass tend to be greatly increased due to the utilization of different sizes of blocks in deposits or quarries. This approach encourages the application of Lasky's relationship in the deposits of natural stone and quarries. Based on this relationship we can simply say that if the sizes of stone blocks and other stone products decrease arithmetically, then reserves increase geometrically or exponentially. On the presented examples, the utilization of the rock mass was analysed by the application of two different technologies of exploitation. Besides, if the exploitation of stone blocks of different sizes achieves high utilization of the rock mass, then exploitation of aggregates and fillers increases much more. It is necessary to emphasize the existence of the border area based on favourable discontinuity density and spatial discontinuity position. Decision should be made whether to apply I or II variant of the exploitation (making vertical and horizontal cuttings or separation of the blocks along natural discontinuities, or using slanting cuts). The example is shown and analysed as a two-dimensional problem.

Abstract Sodium metal batteries are widely acknowledged as one of the most promising low-cost high-energy-density batteries, but limited by uncontrollable dendritic growth and short cyclability. Herein, two-dimensional (2D) mesoporous polydopamine-graphene (mPG) heterostructures with definable pore size and sheet thickness are demonstrated as multi-functional ion redistributors to realize ultrastable, dendrite-free Na metal anodes. Benefitting from abundant sodiophilic groups (-OH, C=O and -NH-), 2D nanoporous graphene, and ordered mesoporous ion channels in mPG, the Na metal anodes show high Coulombic efficiency of >99.5%, outstanding cyclability of ~2000 h, and unprecedented rate performance of 25 mA cm-2 with 25 mAh cm-2, outperforming all the reported Na anodes stabilized by diversified strategies. What’s more, the mPG based Na/Na3V2(PO4)3 full batteries deliver exceptionally enhanced cyclability (90% retention rate after 500 cycles) and rate capacity (75 mAh g-1 at 30 C), demonstrative of impressive potential of well-designed 2D mesoporous polymers for precisely regulating Na deposition.

I should like to give you a very condensed progress report on some spectrophotometric measurements of objective-prism spectra made in collaboration with H. Leicher at Bonn. The procedure used is almost completely automatic. The measurements are made with the help of a semi-automatic fully digitized registering microphotometer constructed by Hög-Hamburg. The reductions are carried out with the aid of a number of interconnected programmes written for the computer IBM 7090, beginning with the output of the photometer in the form of punched cards and ending with the printing-out of the final two-dimensional classifications.

1. The definition of “normal” stars in spectral classification changes with time; at the time of the publication of theYerkes Spectral Atlasthe term “normal” was applied to stars whose spectra could be fitted smoothly into a two-dimensional array. Thus, at that time, weak-lined spectra (RR Lyrae and HD 140283) would have been considered peculiar. At the present time we would tend to classify such spectra as “normal”—in a more complicated classification scheme which would have a parameter varying with metallic-line intensity within a specific spectral subdivision.
